80's movies (that are still good)
« on: June 23, 2008, 01:27:04 pm »
After being to this site, www.retrojunk.com , I have been bitten by the nostalgia bug and am going on an 80's movies binge. To start things off we watched Goonies on Saturday. I was expecting that it would suck now that I am older, as alot of skewed childhood memories do. We were pleasantly surprised that this movie was actually very good still. That is probably the BEST ensemble of child actors ever in a movie. Of course, the Chunk/Sloth love fest was still 'uncomfortable'.

I would like others to post movies from the 80's that mostly withstand the test of time. So get to posting!

Hudson Hawk.

Ok, I realize that movie isn't from the 80's (it's actually 1991 according to IMDB), but that move is one of my guilty pleasures.

It appears that everyone forgot the movie "They Live". Outside of BTTF, "They live" is prolly the most "80's" of all 80's movies.

Ill see your "They Live" and raise you "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension"

Though They Live still has the best fight scene ever.

That's on OnDemand. I must've tried to watch that movie three times already and I just can't get into it. It seems to start off so slow that I just can't seem to get myself past a certain point.

Besides the ones already mentioned:

I've always had guilty pleasures watching
Beetlejuice
Spaceballs (Barf!!!)
Uncle Buck
Night of the Comet (SciFi Ch tried to make a remake of this one)
Doctor Detroit
Maximum Overdrive (Don't know why I love this one so much.)
The Princess Bride
Howard the Duck (It's so cheesy)
Tremors (Miss the TV show :( )

check out http://www.fast-rewind.com/ it's supposed to be the more or less complete list of 80's flicks available.

OK, you guys have good throw-ins but always seem to miss the goodies. I threw in "They Live", now I will have to throw in one that should have been in the list to begin with: Little Shop of Horrors.

Well, I am mainly interested in the kid movies. I already have all the best horror movies from the 80's.

I'm thinking more along the lines of
Goonies
Adventures in Babysitting
Flight of the Navigator
Monster Squad
The Neverending Story

This is the main list I want to build

Define "kid."

I showed Gremlins to the seven year old and she just about freaked.

I saw Gremlins in a desolate ski resort theater and had to walk home, in a snow storm, at ten at night. I was six when I saw that movie.

Darn kids today.

Can't believe no one has said Poltergeist yet.

The first one, yes... 2nd and 3rd... no.

The 2nd might not have been the greatest, but you can't beat that HR Giger tequila worm scene.
Not to mention that Julian Beck was the creepiest human on the planet!
his role as Henry Cain to this day freaks me out!
