My arcade is pretty much finished
« on: June 19, 2008, 06:26:57 pm »
Aside from chrome dustwashers, dedicated 4 way, flight yolk, pinball buttons & plunger I am finished up (all but one of those items are in the house but I am just too tired to install it.

Thinking about adding light guns, guitar hero aka Frets on Fire & perhaps a 7" steering wheel on the front (not on the CP itself) & pedals under the coin door.....dunno yet, right now I am happy just to have buttons & joysticks.

It's great to see another showcase style cab, there aren't that many here!  Very nice job with the diamond plate!  How do you have your speakers set up, are they behind the plexi?

Very, very nice...

The metal plating with the black/blue color them works very well, and it's nice to see a control panel that isn't horribly over-crowded.

Very nice indeed  8)

I was hoping you was going to do a project announcement but I agree, more pics/info!  :)

You want the chrome (well, stainless steel) then? Remember to let me know what joys they are for.  ;)

How do you like the UVC?  My showcase project is mainly for the Gauntlet Legends hardware I bought, including the 38" medium res monitor.  I have to sell my 25" MAME cab due to how much space the new cab is going to take up, so I was thinking of making it Gauntlet/MAME switchable.  That means using the UVC to interface the PC with the medium res monitor, so I'd like to know if you had any issues with it and how you like the picture.

Thanks!

Dude, this work is totally frickin awsome!  Beautiful colors and love the silver plating!  I think you surpased my "Bad Boy Showcase" cabinet.  See here http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=53911.0
Most people dont build or redo these beautiful cabinets.  Its nice to see yours.  Definately one of the best ive seen.  Hope it inspires other to build this style.  Dude we gotta talk! :notworthy:

Gametreks thats quite a machine you built there, I dunno if your statement of mine surpassing the "Bad Boy" is accurate tho.

The diamond plating on my arcade is a double edged sword however, sometimes it looks amazing, custom & tough.

Other times I think it looks like a rednecks truck box married a rap video.

Anyway, thanks for the kudos!

Great looking machine.
Hilariously true about the diamond plate being simultaneously custom-tough and redneck-rap, haha :)
(Personally I like it a lot)
Also Gametrek's cabs are quite impressive.
I am more of an old-school guy but these showcase/pedestal/whatever-you-call-'em "cabinets" are pretty frickin badass.
Nice work fellas.

Eric.

Poor Pinball!  Bro you spent so much money on that awesome cade you couldnt afford furniture!   ;D

Either way its a killer project.  Im sure youre so glad its over.....

So, we have 3 Showcase so far.  I'll be a fourth or fifth if I can ever get it going.  I love Pinballs, Paladin, you know Im nuts for yours too, but Gametreks takes the cake too.

I know this sounds stupid, but I really want to do a Dragon's Lair dedicated with my showcase.  But I know everyone is going to flame me for all that extra space on the CP.  Going to be some serious acreage going on there.....

Something about Dragons Lair on a huge 34" screen that drives me nuts.

LOL, nah man I still managed to acquire furniture & a few other toys but the cost of this baby did indeed slow me down on getting a few more pins.

To see the rest of my game room (unfinished of course ;)) & other peoples rooms in the community just follow the link: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=81323.0

You know what though, this massive showcase may be leaving the house soon. Fear not, a scratch built showcase with custom artwork & a 42" 1080p LCD will be replacing it (decided not to go UAII kit with a CRT after all).

Dedicated Dragons lair on a showcase?????....... wah wah wah, dont do it bro nooooooo!

Just do a DL theme & of course add Daphne to the mix.

Later, thanks for the kudos

Hate to revive an old thread but I'm considering picking up a used showcase cab (33" monitor which recently got recapped).  I'm a pinball nut, so I was wondering if you ever got around to installing those buttons and the other missing items. If so, how do the pin buttons feel and where did you place them?  If not, where ARE you going to place them???

I can't imagine playing pinball with buttons that aren't placed at their appropriate place/right angle and with a showcase, I don't know if that's even possible, aside from maybe making a couple of holes in the middle of the CP to house the buttons inside. (I think I saw someone else do this actually).

Anyway, nice job of course, your cab looks great and is the reason why I'm considering picking up the showcase that's available.

I was also worried about button placement but it feels pretty good with my palms rested on the top of the CP & my fingers under it.

Just walk up to a showcase & give it a shot, if it feels ok to you then I would pull the trigger.

Showcases are awesome, do it!

I love this cab..

quick question...
I'm looking at building a showcase cab (was going to build an upright but the tv I have to use is 80cm (or about 31-32")which would be pretty hard on you eyes up close)... the curved plexi in front of the screen.. does it distort the picture at all??  cause it looks much better than flat

The curved plexi has no bearing on the picture, only a sheet of glass/plexi/lexan with magnification properties would affect the image when curved.

I think  ;D

Just wanted to say great job on this.

I'm a sucker for a good black+blue theme with a healthy dose of diamond plate. :)

If only I had the room for a showcase cabinet..someday Knievel...someday

I had to bow out, the price is right but the space is not. I went to Niagara Falls last weekend and saw 2 showcase cabs side by side.  That part wasn't so bad, but when I showed my wife, it turned sour.

She's really cool but she asked the question "where the F$%T are we going to place that thing?!?".  Long story short, I can't answer her question; the cab is just too big for the space I have.  Maybe in a few years I'll sell my pool table and then I'll have mucho room for both pins and cabs but right now, even though I have a big basement, it's not in the cards. :(
