i cut the ends of a pair of head phones, one has a blue and gold wire ( like bits of thread) the other green and gold, the gold ones will be ground and the other 2 l and r will these be ok since they are like thread? also woud wire work? |
| Zebidee:
Yes , the 'gold' wires (actually copper or copper alloy) are ground. The threads surround the other wires to reduce electrical interference. Twist the exposed threads together to make a wire. The blue and green ones should be left and right. The only real reservation I have about saying this is that some cheap headphones only put a single channel (usually the left one) through to both speakers. Other than hooking it up and using your ears, The only way to be 100% sure is to use a multimeter and check connectivity with the jack plug sleeve connections, as shown in this pic from Franco B's post: You can buy a cheap digital multimeter from a hardware store for about $10-15. Use the diode test function ( symbol looks like this: ->| ) |

i tryed using meter. it tryed to do a continuity test but it didnt beep, thats why i was unsure of these type of wire, can ordinary wire be used? |

If you aren't getting any beeps at all, then you are probably aren't using your multimeter correctly There is a guide to using multimeters posted here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=68787.0 |
