j pac pulse signal
G1zm0:
went to maplin and got a 5v zener diode, 1.3w?
will this do as i didnt know current drawn. so explained what it was for and got this?
if its done like it says on ultimacs diagram, wont the 12v just flow right through the wire without going through the diode?
Turnarcades:
The current shouldn't matter. The ones I bought were 0.5w and worked fine. The diode effectively reverses any excess voltage and sends it through the ground, leaving a 5v coin signal to go to your i-pac.
G1zm0:
ok i put my diode on, i split the ground wires and soldered the side without the stripe between them, the side with strip i soldered between the green wire with red strip.
after that i put the meter to diode setting, i inserted prob into signal and other one to other side and i got 0 on meter,
i did same with other side (neg) and i got .702, is this ok before i wire it up?
dont want jpac to pp its clogs
Turnarcades:
Sounds about right, so give it a go. People have used coin doors without the diode without problem for several months, so if anything you are fairly safe from the off, but the diode just gives that extra bit of protection in the event of surges, and keeps the overall voltage down permanently, so better in the long run.

thanx, will now go out and start rewiring.
