What about grey-scaling the backgrounds on the sideart (not the large main characters)?  Have you tried this to see how that would look?

Agreed.  Looks a million times better with the grayscale.  The main characters really pop.

I agree on the grayscale, its less busy, stick with that, you should also do that to the marquee.

Well, I only had a chance to post up the CP, the Marquee and the other side art. The rest I will post up tomorrow. What do you guys think? I think It looks simple and subtle. I am not so convinced by the marquee though...

yeah - definitely full color for the marquee.  Also, that's a lot of gray on the CP - what would it look like if you had some of the characters in color?  Maybe the heroes and villains but nothing else... it would tie into the side panels a little better I think...

They are all illuminated. They are clear Happs, but illuminated Red with an illuminated red Happ trackball.

The coin, p1, p2 and mouse buttons will have PGI inserts in them too.

I know the marquee doesn't go, but I couldn't have a colour one and then a different scheme everywhere else. So here is a redesign.

What do you think?

I liked the full color one way better.  I think you can get away with it on the marquee because it is actually lit up.  Plus, it has more  characters from the Marvel universe (not just Spider-man related)...

Yeah the measurements are basically sorted now (will post them up tonight!).

As for the artwork it is difficult. I really like the grayscale sides, just not everything else.

I did a small printout of both and showed my family. Votes were: 8 for colour, 1 for Grayscale. They said that the colour looked more fun and attractive although they all agreed that the characters really pop on the side art for the greyscale! But overall they said the colour one has a comic feel and looks not so bland.

I don't want to spend $280 on a mistake, if you get my drift!

I am also doing a small revision to the marquee!

Well as i stated to ThatItalian, i am about 99% done with my arcade.  My kids loved the theme that you created so i desided to use it.  All i had to do to the control panel artwork was move the controls around a little and add add some buttons.  I still have to instal the volume control and wire up the coin door lights.  Once again you sharing your artwork made this possible.

Thank you

Looks awesome beanboy33!! How do you find the button spacing? They look a little far apart to be comfortable for me.

AWESOME BUD! Glad this is being put to good use!!!

Just out of curiosity, what size is your trackball and did you move the button spacing as Franco suggested?

How did you print the CP?

Did you make any other changes?

What do you think are the flaws in the CP?

 :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:

This has just increased my motivation by 200%!!!

Well, the button spacing is pretty much the same as Thatitalians.  I think its fine and my kids 7 and 8  seem to have no problems.  But if you notice i moved all p1 and p2 buttons down a little.  on your cp the left and right arrows of the joystick and the trackball are at the same level.  on mine they are an inch or so apart.  the track ball is a 3" U-Trak from Ultimarc.   I just printed the artwork on a plotter here at work and put it under plexi glass.  nothing too special about it.  if you want i can post my cp artwork and you can over lay it on yours to see the button changes.  and lastly i am using maximus as a fe with a 27" tv.

Yeah that would be great to see the comparison!

A 3" trackball? That is a worry as the red circle is supposed to be 3" exactly but there is a red ring around your trackball. Did you edit the red circle? (it was supposed to be just a placement to see how the trackball would look)

Just thought I would let everyone know also you get an 11% discount at mame marquees! Will be ordering this within the month!

Where did you print it up in the end?

BTW: I am working on a skin for MA, I know that beanboy has been waiting a LONG time for this but I will be releasing it at the end of next week once it is finalised.

here at work i have a color plotter.  so, the cp and the marquee is printed on regular paper and sandwiched between plexi glass.  and remember, all the changes i did were from your original design at the start of the thread.  not the one you have towards the end of the thread.  I also added a pinball plunger.

Your artwork skills are impressive - look forward to seeing your finished product with the sideart. You took the exact opposite approach as me - I built cab first, artwork last (what I'm doing now). I think your way is more fun :)

I have to say I love the artwork.  I am a huge marvel fan, I even have a Spiderman tattoo and Wolverine tattoo.

My favorite is the Wolverine color with the gray background.

I love the artwork!  I think the latest side artwork looks fantastic.  I also agree with the color background.  I believe it makes the comics look more authentic.  The large character takes up most of the side so I don't think it looks to busy.

Great Job!

the idea is good as for the mixing of different ages of comics it just does not appeal to me if you did a character comparison IE old to new it looks better but I would stick with one age eliminates the inconsistencies of the artwork also a small note certain art does not mix even if its drawn in the same age for example frank miller love his artwork but it stands on its own well gl with your project and i hope I was not to critical just trying to offer a different opinion

I came across this thread when I first starting looking into making my own arcade setup. I was a huge marvel fan growing up and I decided to make my arcade cabinet have a Marvel theme. I have the control panel almost done, now I'm just working on the marquee. I used a poster I had laminated for the CP. When I redo do it (it's only a matter of time because I'm always redoing things to make them better) I'm not going to use laminate because it peeled a little around the holes I made for the buttons. It's not too noticeable but it bothers me because I know it's there.

Well some progress:

I got some full size printouts of the sideart and CP and cutting plans for both (see attached). Now I can use these as a template for cutting to make sure the art fits perfectly when I fit it.

I also tried out my router today. It started badly but after some advice (thanks Franco!) it now has become my new best friend. Why on earth did I not buy one 2 years ago???

Now here is the bad news. I have been seconded on a project for work (yay!) for 3 months! (booooo). I go in February which means cab cutting won't start until May! At least it will be sunny, warm and dry! However, to make up I will be starting up another project parallel to the arcade..... yes you guessed..... a juke!

Stay tuned.....
