Soundcard driver help

(1/1)

Franco B:
I recently did a clean XP install on my girlfriends PC but now there is no sound.

After looking in the Device Manager it appears that there is no driver for the soundcard (amongst a couple of other things)

Obviously I need to install a driver but I dont know which one I need.

I used a program called Test My Hardware but it just showed there was a sound device present but didnt give any more info. After having a bit of a google I found some advice regarding googling part of the information from the details tab of the device properties. The following information is in the details tab:

PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3059&SUBSYS_83751071&REV_50\3&61AAA01&0&8D

If I google the parts in bold with a colon and -linux (1106:3059 -linux), the first page shown is from DriverAgent.com http://listing.driveragent.com/pci/1106/3059

However there are still loads of devices on that page. Im kind of stuck from here, does anyone have any advice?

The only info I have about the Laptop is that it is made by Evesham and its a mobile AMD Athlon 2000+ 1.66Ghz, 496MB RAM and its approx 5 years old.

Any help would be great, thanks.

I'd suggest using Belarc Advisor to identify the sound card.  It's a free install and works great.

DaOld Man:
Have you tried Windows Update?
There may be a driver under "Hardware".
