Mame on the xbox

I have built around 9 xboxs with Mame, Final Burn Alpha, and XBMC.  I will say the xbox does a fine job playing most anything mame has to offer.  Due to the xbox's limited RAM, not all the newer games will play.  Final Burn Alpha plays 100% perfect so far.   You will need to ditch the factory Hard drive and get a bigger one if you want to hold everything.  It will also play any of the older consoles (SNES, Genesis, etc) perfect.

I bought an Xbox a few weeks ago to use as a Media PC and it works great. Mame runs almost all games on full speed (as mentioned above). If you link the box to your network you don't even need a bigger HD because you can use a partition on your PC's harddrive. I definitely like the frontend, wish there would be something like that on PC. Kawax and other emu's are also available for the Xbox.

I know that there are hardware mods for the XBox to double the memory to allow larger Mame games to run but it involves alot of soldering but thats not for me.

My Xbox has a solderless chip installed with the drive loaded with alot of great emu's on it including MAME. The DOS emu just rules! and with Xbox Media Center it is one of the best investments I have ever made. I use it like a TiVo, moving videos over and watching them when ever I want!

Great piece of equipment to play around with if you can get by the fact that:

Hello..

I'm using one myself  :)

You can use usb adaptors in the controller ports.. with these an ipac will plug straight in no problem (no need to hack a controller).

I flashed the TSOP (no need for a mod chip) using one of the game save hacks,  installed a bigger hard drive (160GB when that was seen as huge), and installed everything ftp'ing from my PC.

Here is my WIP cab:

as already said: it plays all the classics. Perfect for me.

the only downside, to get trackball or spinner support (mouse support) you need special hardware that they don't sell anymore that i can find.
