NFL Blitz Conversion (My First Cab)
« on: May 30, 2003, 01:10:31 pm »
Well I just bought a working NFL Blitz arcade cab and I'm going to pick it up tomorrow, this may take some time as I'll probably sit with it still as Blitz for a month or so while i acquire the rest of the parts but hopefully I can turn it into a nice 4 player mame cab.

I also hope for pictures but the digital camera I have is the worst camera in the world heh

Wish me luck  ;)

It cost $405 plus whatever it cost me to drive a few hours to pick it up etc

An update on it here
Once I got it home I plugged it up for some nice blitz action and the monitor promptly died. We've spent the last few weeks trying to fix it and yesterday while looking over the deflection board I finally found the burned out resistor that we had been overlooking doh! :o

So anyway I'm gonna order and replace that resistor then hopefully things will be looking up. I'm having problems figuring out how to interface the computer with the monitor since its a med res monitor (25khz) but I think a hacked bios for a voodoo3 or banshee will work for that.

So heres the current specs of what I plan on for my computer
1700+ Athlon XP
512MB PC2100 DDR RAM
40GB Hard Drive
Voodoo3 (possibly dual vid cards not sure here yet0

An ArcadeVGA maybe be able to solve your problems, but you'll have to talk to Andy about that. Also I'm pretty sure AdvanceMAME would work but I haven't checked it in forever to see if they're updating it.

I  thought the Blitz cabinets had some funky kind of monitor that you couldn't use the arcadevga.

Also are you going to try and use the 46-way joysticks?

It has a JAMMA interface, right?  Why can't you use a J-PAC?

I emailed someone at wells gardner about my monitor problem and they say that I may have a U5000 monitor which would be great since it can display standard and medium resolutions. I'm gonna get rid of the 49way sticks along with the game to fund some of the other components on the new cp I plan to make.

I just bought a digital camera online so hopefully I can get some pics up for this soon.

What could they be useful for here? Can't play regular games on them, can you? Can't use them as analogs, can you? What's the point?

I believe you *can* use them as analogs if you hook up the right electronics breadboarded doohickey... then you get some sweeet sinistar action.

Sorry to make this question but are you going to mutilate the cab??

If so you shouldn't!  :)

I agree, Blitz cabs are everywhere. I wouldn't feel guilty about it. :)

Check the Game Consoles section.  49-way to hall effect circuit.
