It appears that I like toys

OK, got my coin mech/door/etc from thenasty. Guess what I do?

1. Pull out the coin mechs to show my landlord (who worked with someone who dealt with coin acceptors). Neat

2. Put the thing together (with a few missing screws)

3. Proceed to find EVERY kind of coin i can find to test it.

4. Realise that I spent 3 hours playing with the damn thing

5 Realise that it takes a nice silvery canadian quarter 100% of the time but only takes a US quarter 95+% of the time.

6. Forgot to hook the damn thing up to my Minipac to test the damn switches...(Tomorrow maybe?)

7. Im too busy watching the thing "do its thing" with the coins I put in it. (Me and my toys.....)

So anyways, once I am done amusing myself with the coin mech, is there a thread on how to refurbish a used one here? And if not, would this be a good place to start a potentially stickied thread on it? I dont want to bother thenasty too much with questions since I paid a measly 25 bucks for the full package, so I will bother all of you instead (evil grin). Here we go:

1. Bulb types and voltage

2. Proper cleaning/maint on the door and mech

3. Switch types compatible with common coin mechs (incase the switches dont work or I need replacement)

4. proper manner of removing paint and repainting a coin door

5. Proper method of cleaning the coin return buttons (I presume Isopropyl and a Q-tip)

Dont think this is a thread against thenasty, this is just so I dont bug him with PMs about proper ways to restore a used coin system. Any thoughts would be good. And I do think something like this should be stickied, since I am sure many of us will buy used coin systems, and some of us arent keen on giving saint money for a book just yet (Spent all my money on the coin system, sorry saint ;) )

REPORTED ! PM SENT ! BANNED !

There are two articles on coin door restoration linked in the Restoration section of the wiki. Also take note of the wiki page on Coin Doors, which includes some discussion about wiring up lights.

I clean plastic mechs in hot soapy water and throw metal mechs in a box in the corner. Same goes for the return buttons (after I remove them from the door and possibly remove any inserts).

EDIT: Why is this posted in EE ?

I'm pretty sure everyone here likes toys. That's pretty much why where here?

Man, my mind must be in the gutter because my brain was completely expecting something different being discussed.   :laugh2:

That's why I clicked on it initially ...
