Korean inspired cabinet
« on: November 28, 2016, 09:21:43 pm »
Hi All,

I'm starting my second arcade project. I'm very good with everything tech related but not woodworking. My first project was to gut out and refurbish an old cab then use an x-arcade joystick.

I plan to use sketchup first then get someone to CNC it if the cost is reasonable. Otherwise I'll slowly do it myself given my limited wood working skills.

Let me know if someone has attempted this before and would appreciate any feedback. Thanks for checking this out and watch out for updates.

Below are my parts list plan:
-pandora box 4
-Crown 307FJ White Joystick
-Illuminated white buttons
-22-24 inch lcd monitor
-vga scanline generator (ebay)
-sheet metal control panel (tbd based on cost)

When you said Korean... I first thought... coal powered? Possible "cheap workers" making the cab for you? Maybe even a rocket powered cab built on American Tears???? Subscribed!

You might have difficulty getting the pandora board to play nice with a scanline generator. Why not just go MAME? More game options and crt like effects available

I have hyperspin, launchbox and emuloader running on my desktop pc. I do agree that the new HLSL feature on mame .178 is amazing!

Few reasons why I opted to go jamma for now namely...
1. I'm curious about the pandora box 4
2. pandora is relatively cheaper than buying a new pc.
Cost me $100 (pandora box 4 clone, scanline generator, power supply, jamma wiring harness, speaker,
3. I can use a JPAC in the future if i decide to use a pc with little to no rewiring
4. Use cost savings to get better joystick and push buttons.
Crown 307FJ White Bat Japanese Micro/Silicone and white led illuminated push buttons.
5. Can't dedicate my desktop pc to my arcade just yet.
6. Wife will take my credit cards if she finds out I'm buying a new PC and building an arcade :)

So far I've ordered everything and now waiting with anticipation.... also waiting for my local CNC guy to reply back to me.

Don't worry... it was a terrible joke anyway!

Good luck on the build!
