Fourteen Months…

What can happen in just fourteen months?  Let me tell you…..

Let’s start with deciding to create the most complete, high quality, MAME video set.  Then let’s add a baby, company struggling then finally going completely under, job hunts, new job, and no time to spare.  Add to that the hosting for this site went crazy this last year and the site ended up being retooled and relaunched.  Now on the other end of that fourteen months I look back and do not understand why I even tried to make this set.  And still I sit back with a big grin and realize I just completed a Video Preview Set with 7 ,435 video clips.  EmuMovies just had it’s 3rd anniversary on March 19th and if I add up all of the videos I have made in those fist two years the total is 6,757.   Every single video in this set was played and then hand edited for content, to create the most accurate preview possible.  I am proud of this set, it is the highest quality video set that I have ever produced.  Everything that I have figured out in the last 3 years about what would make the best set has been applied.   Avg 30 sec files, actual gameplay with all the sounds and music, 3-5 sec of title sequence, cropping, artwork, and the files captured in such a way to make it perfect no matter the front end (HQ, SQ, Vertical, Horizontal).

To sum up the MAME Video Snaps are DONE, COMPLETED, IN THE BAG, WOOHOOOOO!!!!

I do need to say this, I have now actually played EACH and EVERY SINGLE MAME GAME….  Oh my god, there are ALOT of really crap games.  I would think to myself, “this ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- was actually in a thousand plus dollar arcade machine and people would play quarters to play?? WTF??!!??”   Seriously though, everyone should try that just once, it will really sap your will

Seriously though, I hope everyone really enjoys this latest EmuMovies release, it has been my pleasure to produce it.  Expect updates to the latest mame version shortly and updates for new versions regularly.

Effective immediately this set will be included on all DVD orders and has been uploaded to the FTP Server.  The torrent will be made available May 1st 2008.  I have decided to wait on the torrent release to give all the folks who have supported this site over the past year a little something extra for their support.  I can’t say how much I thank the EmuMovies supporters out there.  It’s been alot of fun getting real hosting, and relaunching the new website this last year, and being able to open the FTP site with direct downloads has been a kick!

There seems to be some confusion about how to actually set up the MAME videos with different front ends.  This is an article that I wrote that explains the all the directories and how to implement the videos with your front end.  If any more detail's are needed I will work on something better.  As soon as I have a day off I will finish the info's and stuff on my site.

i've always found your movies drop n go in fe's for mame

the console ones have proven touch harder to setup I've been going thru my console sets stripping out any foreign games and removing hacks/bad dumps leaving the newest [!] rom when possible, matching games to your video filename then stripping all [USA] [!] [JUE] and all that jazz off the end taken some hours and still some hours to go but i'm getting there and it looks good once complete

The nice thing about mame is that there is just one naming convention, vs consoles in which case there can be three or more.  Hopefully one of these days someone can help me out with some dat files, but for now.....  Although renaming is still a heck of a lot faster than making new vids

yeop, I'm certainly not complaining... I have no idea how you managed to subject yourself to all of them games and a .. but I'm very glad you did. 

Once I've sorted the console ones then thats it try make a backup and all done... as you say mame is nice and simple as you can just drop your sets in your specified movies directory and all done.

I've used a few goodtool name renaming utils with some filters to remove foreign roms and a copy tool which copies in order of your  prefered version

 if thats not avail moves down to the next prefered named file ie [!] if its avail if not it will get the next avail one which matches the rest of my filter ie prefer a country very handy util,
then whack the roms and movies into one dir load into Flash renamer match them up and use the mass remove to get rid of the [] notes and bits once sorted... works lovely once complete... then in maximus they go..

may try do a road avenger preview vid for daphne, depends how daring I feel

I have the latest torrent, and to get the rest of the videos, I used filezilla ftp client and grabbed those files with a date stamp later than the date of the torrent (like everything after Feb 10 2008)

This assumes you donated to the cause and have ftp access.

IMHO -everyone- should donate. Those emumovies (not just for mame) make a tremendous difference to any cab or front end.

I am most definitely a donating supporter and have ftp access.  I was just wondering the best way to update my set to get the current ones.  I guess I could use the new torrent to download what I don't have, but where does one get the torrent from?  I don't see it on the FTP site...

The best way to update is just log on, check the directory structure, make it the same on your hard drive.  Then using filezilla copy all of the contents to your drive, then when it gives you "This file already exists" dialog tell it to skip all exesting files.

The torrent will not be released until May 1st or so.

I think you should wait. I think more people need to donate to your cause! Tell me I'm wrong for wanting you to make a tiny bit of money for this. Why not keep the old torrents up and the rest take a subscription

The MAME set was the big change, it has been completely replaced.  Minor changes: Atari Lynx and 3DO video sets have been "remastered" cropped, edited stuff like that.  So version 2 of those sets are on the FTP and DVD.

If you bought a set in march and cant download the new MAME set from the FTP please PM me.

So,

I finally had some time to mess around with these.  And I had a couple of questions.

Anyone know where the video to mk2 went?  I don't see mk2.avi anywhere.

Also is the sound issue fixed with the mortal kombat 1,2,3 previews?  It didn't appear so when I tried the mk3.avi.  It still sounds low.  I'm guessing because it was recorded when the sound defaulted to be low and you have to manually raise it.  (Fixed in newer MAME version where it will now remember the volume automatically to be set higher).

Anyway, I would be willing to fix the sound issue and repost it, but I need it converted to any other format than DIVX .avi, as my editing program tends to balk at that format and only show the audio (no video).

Also, Zinc videos are a bit long, causing them to play fine at first, but then to stutter after about 20 seconds.  Again, I would be willing to "chop them down" and repost them as long as my editor can take the files, which it cannot.  I am using Sony's Vegas Pro 6.

Any help with these issues?

Hi. I recently upgraded to the Emumovies MAME SQ previews (on dvd) from the CDBrown set and noticed on some of the games previews don't work - i just get the snap instead of the avi preview. I'm using mame 0.109. The games i've found so far are R-Type (US), R-Type 2, Mortal Kombat (rev l3.1), Saint Dragon, Dragon Breed, Rainbow Islands (new version). Am i doing something wrong here ? Maybe the way i copied the files over (horizontal first then vertical) wrong as some of the horizontal were overwritten by the vertical ? Or avi snap names not matching rom names (for 0.109) ? It's unlikely all these games don't work in the latest rev of mame.
