My gameroom console display
« on: March 30, 2008, 05:29:18 pm »
A while back I started collecting consoles with the intent of filling a display case with them. Well, I soon ran out of room in the display case so I used another blank wall to make this display.  The consoles are as follows...
Unisonic Tournament 2000 Pong - 1977
Atari 2600 - 1977
Intellivision - 1979
Emerson Arcadia - 1982
C64 - 1982
TRS-80 Color 2 - 1983
NES
GameBoy
Playstation

I don't plan on going any more recent than the Playstation and if I run out of room, that will be the first to go. I would still like to add an Oddyssey, Original Pong, Colecovision, Genesis, and Gamegear. The handheld electronic games are pretty much placeholders and fillers at this point. My wife offered to make up little nametags for the front of the shelves for each unit. I may also put Atari games or the handhelds up in that blank area above the shelves. Other thoughts for making it cool?

Do you have any of the original boxes or packaging?  It would be pretty cool to see the packaging for these systems and then the systems on top of that.  Maybe even include a screenshot or two of the consoles in action, print them out on a nice photo-printer, then frame them up below each system.
Donkey Kong High Scores:
1): 49,500
2): 35,600
3): 30,100
4): 29,400
5): 28,200

I have a few of the boxes but they're pretty beat up and they are all huge. I like the idea of the screenshots. It will just be a matter of fitting them in.

How about a digital photo frame that runs pics of all the systems, accesories, screenshots...?

Very nice display.   :applaud:

I think the Intellivision is the best one there!   :applaud:

The Merlin, along with the Mattel handhelds, really adds a lot to the display.  I think I had all but one of them including the racing games up top.   I thought that before I even read your post.  I'd definitely leave them in there.

My only suggestion is to move the PS1 an inch or two to the right to hide the L bracket.

I'd give it a 10 out of 10 and ask when is the party for us?   ;D

Very cool display... I had the Blip and that racing game on the top shelf. Also had Merlin... Had the Mattel games you had, with the addition of the auto racing one and Battlestar Galactica.
The PS1 does look sort of outta place to me there... An Atari 5200 would go perfect.

Thanks for being a donor to this classic museum, Hoopz. Your Intellivision was a huge contribution. Who else wants to be a donor? I could use a PS3.  ;D

I'll be up next week for games!  Glad to help.   :)

I said move the PS1 over but wasn't thinking for some reason.  I meant to say move the NES over slightly.  I do know the difference between them.

You could probably hang them from the shelf underneath where the consoles sit.  Include a label and the screenshot.

I love the little mechanical driving game on the top shelf.  I have one of those that my son used to play constantly.

I'm really glad to have this project well underway finally. All of this stuff has been crammed into the display cabinet and it was nice to go through it all and sort it out and see what all I had.
Loopey1, I'm definitely interested in anything Intellivision or Colecovision. The Atari 5200 would be a nice addition as well. Let me know what you have any what you're hoping to get for them shipped to 60565. Thanks!

My brother had that red handheld game but I don't remember what it was - I'd like to know! Also, my cousin had that white handheld football game (I think that's it anyway) - I always liked playing when I went to his house.

Thanks for sharing this!

What did Merlin use for the little red lights?  Was it LEDs or incandescents?

You should use the search function.  That doesn't apply to this particular post though, just a general observation.

OK, now I'm going to have to google it. I remember the name now, but not the game itself. I can't believe I'm having such a hard time remembering - must be getting old. ;)

Cowbell,

You need an Odyssey and a TI99-4a. I've got a spare of each for the cost of shipping.

I have a Merlin around the house somewhere. It's still in the box IIRC. I got it brand new for Christmas and remember getting in trouble for cutting the tape at the end of the box *very carefully* to see what was inside, a full 2 weeks before Christmas. >:D

Very cool, but you should put some kind of lip on the front of those shelves.  It would really suck if someone bumped into them and one or more consoles came crashing to the floor.  The shelves (and L brackets) might also look nice painted to match the color of the wall behind them.

There are tiny nails in the shelves holding the consoles tipped up like that. With kids, a dog, a clumsy arcade geek, and misc. other dangers, I figured better safe than sorry.

Just received a Sega Genesis w/ controllers and Game Genie and a Sega GameGear in the mail. I won them on eBay for $16 total shipped. I'll snap a pic tonight. Running out of room fast and still have an Odyssey and Ti99-4a on the way from Nostrebor (). Ideas on how I can fit more or rearrange? I'm not ready to quit collecting these yet.

A huge shout out to Nostrebor for sending me two beautiful items for the display for the low low price of shipping. He sent an Odyssey and a Ti99-4a, both of them boxed and in pristine condition. The Ti99-4a looks unused at all. Thanks a million, Dave!
Pics to follow soon since my wife destroyed one of the shelves. The display is on the wall at the very bottom of the basement stairs. The door that is in the picture goes to my weight room. My wife bought some of those big rubber squares that go on weight room floors and in all of her brilliance let one of the packages just roll down the stairs instead of carrying it. Crash went the bottom shelf.  :hissy: I'll have to do some wall repair and get it back in shape this weekend.  :banghead:
