Vista 64 Owners - Light Gun Solution (sorta)
rdenis:
Okay after gleaning a bunch of info from several sources I finally have a lightgun that works in Vista 64 and Mame 123u6! It still needs some major tweaking but I did manage to get the damn thing to work for the most part. Until EMS or someone comes up with a solution for their drivers for Vista this will have to do.
Basically if you have a bluetooth dongle, a Nintendo Wiimote and sensor bar (optional) you can make this function.
Download BlueSoleil driver software trial from http://www.bluesoleil.com/download/ - some dongles are prepackaged with BlueSoleil - if not download this trial - it has everyhting you need for the wiimote as it is.
Download WiinRemote v2007.1.13 software from http://onakasuita.org/wii/index-e.html
Install BlueSoleil software trial (the tial limits the data you can transfer bewtween BT devices to 5 MB which is more than adequate for our purposes) - note if you have a Microsoft BT wireless keyboard or mouse, its dongle cannot be made to work with this. In fact BlueSoleil will disable the BT Stack and your MS Keyboard and Mouse will be temporarily disabled. You can reinstall them under Control Panel/Hardware/Keyboard and reenable the MS dongle (which is a only has scaled down BT functionality in the first place - just make sure you have a spare PS2 or USB keyboard lying around).
Install WiinRemote v2007.1.13 - you can now use your Wiimote as a fully functioning mouse. This software is cool because it allows you to either control the pointer/cursor via the Wiimote's built in motion sensor or traditional infrared sensor bar. I am using it with my EMS Topgun sensor bars as the moment and it works not bad in terms of tracking. I find the Wiimote tracking much smoother than the TopGun!
The other thing you can control is the WiiMote buttons can be programmed to function however you like - eg I set the A button to emulate left mouse click once and B button to emulate right mouse click once. You can also set a button to toggle on/off the Wiimote controlling the pointer - very useful.
Any way I need to do some more extensive testing and calibration to get the set up proper. Once that is done, I'd like to either strip the Wiimote and hack my TopGun to convert it fully or I am sure soemone has come out with a Wiimote gun already that could be used.
One other final though about what's realy cool here - no more umbilical cord!
Rich
PS - Ill post some pics/vid once I get the tweaking sorted out.

Sweet, nice to see somebody in the MAME community testing this. I was planning on testing this myself, but life got very busy of late and I haven't had the time or the money to do it.
I looking forward to seeing how it works out.
If your looking for something to make the Wiimote more gun like, I suggest grabbing a Brando Wii 2 in 1 light gun, you should be able to pick one up for under $20 usd.
It's best looking gun adaptor I've seen for the Wiimote so far, still not a stunner but it's better than nothing.
Anyway keep up the good work and keep us in the loop.

Ive got this all setup, and working within WiinRemote, but have just loaded up terminator 2, and the cursor doesnt move with the wiimote, just with the mouse. How do i set it up so the wiimote moves the on screen cursor?
severdhed:
can anyone confirm that this actually works using the IR sensor of the wiimote? i have seen in the past where you can use it as a joystick with mame, but not with teh IR/mouse functionality. IF anyone has got this working for sure, i would love to know.
also, on a side note..nyko makes a nice gun attachment for the wii as well, it seems to be sold out at eb, but if you can find one, they look really nice.

I can vouch for those nYko light gun cradles. I own two and they are fantastic, but they are really tough to find.
