Not a bad choice... though that may not be starting "small" as much as it is starting "obscure game with NLA parts that will be a beeeeeaaaatch to replace if it is necessary".  Any idea if that one runs on the same boardset as the full size Gameplans?

Gameplan MPU-1.
It came with a spare MPU because the old one had acid damage.
Should be fine. Worst case scenario I can't fix it and I sell it. Nothing lost.

Flippers.com does Gameplan repairs and stocks some parts for Gameplan. I think he also sells a replacement Gameplan CPU board now.

Are you thinking of Echo Lake Pinball?

Upon closer inspection this weekend, the pin has an MPU-2 with SharpShooter roms installed! The original corroded MPU-1 is missing the ROMs. So I can't swap the roms at the moment. Powering on, I get nothing. No LED flashes. This sucks  :P

That's ironic - I just arranged to buy a Sharpshooter playfield for my son.

Just ordered new ROM chips and found a web forum dedicated to GamePlan pins.

(Should I make this a project thread?)

Now I have to figure out why this MPU-2 has jumpering on the back that does NOT match any mod descriptions on http://www.pinrepair.com/gp/  (the front mods match the 2716 mod, but the back does not).

Since it's a long-shot finding anyone who knows much about this (unless Echo Lake or Flippers are kind enough to offer free advice??) what's the concensus here on what I should do? A pic of this extra jumpering is shown below. I'm thinking I will cut all the jumpering that does not match the instructions on PinRepair.com, and leave all mods that make it 2716 compatible. Does this sound like the right choice to you guys?

Depends on what the chips are that are being jumpered.  Can't see that from this side.

These are the ones involved (bottom)
# U5 - 74LS32
# U6 - CMOS RAM HM6551-9
# U7 - CMOS RAM HM6551-9

I think I've figured it out. This board had the "Converting the 6551 RAMs to 5101 RAMs" mod done to it, and those small jumper wires "reverse" the mod.

The long jumper wire (top of my pic) is another mod related to using 2732 eproms, but it connects to a 'dead end' so it's as good as not being there at all.

I guess the board is good to go once I get the new ROM chips.

Thanks for looking.

Funny....that was my first pin too, though i never consider it so since i only had it for a few days...actually it was a Gameplan Star Trip converted (beleive it or not) to an 8 ball deluxe. Wasn;t exactly a good first attempt at pins.
I got it for free, posted a question about it and was offered 400, I saw it soon after for 1000 on ebay from Todd i think, in PA. I guess he brought it out to a show and had lot of interest in it.

It's pretty cool but a monster hog of space.

LOL  i guess not by looking at that picture....  It seemed to take a lot of space when i had it...maybe just because my garage was overcrowded as it was at the time. I only had it a few days.
I;ve got a couple coktail games that i am not too happy with as far as space issue goes, maybe the way I'm setup just isn;t right for those.

You know that picture doesn't seem right to me.... It really makes it seem really tiny, it's not THAT small is it?

It's pretty small.  Maybe not as narrow as an old style pinball machine, but definitely much shorter (lengthwise). I suppose if you keep a chair in front of it, it ends up using as much space as a regular pin.

I was trying to find a pic of it in my gameroom so you can see what i mean, but no luck.  I'm squeezed in really tight so that would make me think it to be a space hog, especially when you can't put anything underneath it or on top anywhere....yeah, having to have a chair to play it would have been a problem too actually, but I never got that far with it.

At least it can double as a table so that is DEFINITLEY a plus!! The main reason why I am keeping my Phoenix cocktail and sold the UR.

That pic kills me though, I really didn't get the feeling it was that small when I had it....small but not that small.

Diagnosis & Repair update :

-ditched the extra iso
-installed new fuses
-pulled all boards
-cleaned inside
-cleaned dirt off power block
-installed new ROMs on MPU
-visual inspection of MPU (checks out)
-visual inspection of other boards
-cleaned all connection pins on boards
-replaced capacitor on power supply

-reinstalled all boards
-attempted to test power supply (but instructions on PinRepair can't be followed since they refer to an upright pin power supply which has a different layout)
-reconnected all boards

-On power up, everything seems same as it was before:

Some lamps are lit, I hear something click once but can't figure out which solenoid it would be. MPU LED not lit, does not flash. Score displays are blank. Test switch does nothing. Reset switch on MPU does nothing.

Also: ball outhole solenoid is burning up (but it's not in an activated state)

I'm stumped.  :'(
