New Home Construction what extra goodies to add while constructing

Bah, forget all about fancy wiring until you make sure the place has a BIG bathtub that can hold at least 2 people. That adds way more to the satisfaction you get from a house than all the network jacks in the world.
DaOld Man:
If your local code permits, install an outlet about halfway up the staircase.
This will allow you to plug in a vacumm to clean the steps.
The house I bought didnt have one, so I installed one. Also it works out good to plug in a night lite.
It has safely lit the stairs at night since my daughter was young. (It was good for me too).
Also, double check all your room entrance light switches. Some contractors will install only the bare necessities. I like to have a "3-way" switch beside each entry door into the room.
A flood light on each corner of the house is nice.
If it is a two story house, you may want to install two doorbells. One downstairs and one up.
Telephone jacks in every room is nice. (Some people install telephones by the toilet. I think this is a little much, and it is probably dangerous. I wouldnt do it.)
If you have an aquarium, install two duplex plugs where it will set.
Cant think of anything else right now.

Make that one a GFCI.

The Greenbrier Resort lost their 5-star hotel rating because they didn't have phones in their bathrooms.
No joke - that was one of the cited reasons.
I don't care how many stars a hotel has, I will NEVER use a public phone in the bathroom. I wouldn't use a phone in my own bathroom.

I agree with all the prievious advice, though I'd be happy with 2 drops in each room you can't go wrong with more.
One minor feature I suggested when my folks built their house was that I wanted power in my closet. They liked the idea so much that they put outlets in all the closets. It turned out to be really useful.
In my house right now I wish I had power in my closets...sigh. Hell I wish the lazy builder had installed cable in any of the rooms.
