Good advice here; plenty of cat5e/6 cable to rooms, pick a good central closet and make sure it has hvac, wiring chase/conduit from basement to ceiling, plan for "trunk" distribution, etc.

One thing I would suggest is rather than 2 cat5e/6 and 2 RG6 to rooms to up that to 4 cat5e/6 and 3 RG6. With 3 RG cables you can run component video, and use 1 of the spare cat5e/6 cables for analog audio.  HDMI/DVI can be run over cat5e/6 cabling with proper baluns and /or equipment.

Wire now; its a LOT cheaper and easier to run cables everywhere while the walls are open OR go with conduit whereever possible....

If you run that many, make sure you plan for labeled wall plates.  You're not going to want to have to guess later on which jack is going to which hardware downstairs.

Oh definately; most structured wiring installers will use a code system similar to commercial network wiring, but mix it up to differentiate cable types.  I just bought an labelmaker and labelled em myself.  Even if the plates are all trimmed out to begin with, the cables themselves should have identifiers on them.

Let me also highly highly highly recommend that all cables be labeled on both ends. Toning/guessing at your cable is irritating.

You would think, but a lot of low voltage cable gets run by DIYers since it is not dangerous... and that seems to be the thing they most often forget.
