Woman sits on toilet for two years

<< < (10/11) > >>

knave:
I don't think the guy is guilty of anything other than stupidity.  That said, I'd like to think that if any member of my friends or family were in the bathroom for longer than 24 hours, I would do something to get them out.  Calling a Dr., or the advice nurse, or other friends, something.

ChadTower:

It's a trailer.  Just set off a stinkbomb in the bathroom.  She'll come out.  The bathroom couldn't have been more than a few square feet.

Jdurg:
The thing is, even if you call a doctor if she says "I'm not coming off" then there is nothing you can do to get her off.  Especially if she doesn't have anybody that she's responsible for taking care of.

shmokes:
I can see both sides of this.  It definitely is ---fouled up beyond all recognition--- that the guy didn't seek help for this lady.  But at the same time, when she first insisted on staying in the bathroom, it was merely strange, but nothing he's gonna get help for.  She stayed on the toilet all day and wouldn't come out.  Weird, but if it's your girlfriend, you're probably not going to call the police or anything.  Then it became two days.  Then it became a week.  At that time, he's getting really worried and he's bringing her food, and he's trying to convince her to come off the toilet.  And she keeps suggesting that she doesn't want to just now, but maybe tomorrow.  He figures he can wait another day.  Think of her as the Dread Pirate Roberts.  "Good work.  Sleep well.  I'll most likely get off the toilet in the morning."  It's easy to see how something like that could go on for as much as five years.  People might even assume that she died.   ;D

Seriously, though.  I'm sure he thought it was all about to be over for a long time.  And by the time he realized it wasn't, it probably had already become a long time without him knowing it.  Once she'd been on the can for a month, and she was suggesting that she thought she'd be ready to get off the next day, well . . . seriously . . . what's one more day.

Should the guy have called someone before two years had gone by?  Sure.  But it's easy to look at something like that and take out the human element . . . make it easy.  Hell . . .the guy lives in a trailer.  Does he even know who to call?  He knows that the lady needs a shrink . . . not a cop.  People who live in trailers can't afford mental health care.  I just don't think it's as simple as it sounds to really blame the guy.

ChadTower:

We're all in agreement that he should have sought help sooner.  The only thing we're not in agreement on, apparently, is whether or not he committed any crimes.
