Interesting Craigslist find.
« on: March 10, 2008, 06:39:38 pm »
I saw this posted for a free Ms. Pac Man in Boston

http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/zip/601115305.html

I sent a message to see if anyone had claimed it and if they had any pics.  I got a response back saying that it was available but no pictures.  I emailed back asking why they where getting rid of it for free.  Here is the response I got.

"When I bought this machine the previous owner told me it was haunted.  I laughed, didn't believe him, because I didn't believe in that sort of thing.

Got a bad feeling the day it was delivered.  Game started on its own in the middle of the night several times, had a tech service the machine three times (very pricy housecalls), but he couldn't find the problem.

Three-year old daughter started talking about the "man in the video machine", didn't think much of it, then my wife saw a dark figure move across the basement and into the machine.  She ran out of the house, would not return until the machine was out of the house.  I moved it to my business garage (two miles away), and several times I have opened the garage to find tools missing or scattered, things tipped over.

This is why I am giving away a $1000 machine for free."

Chad you need to go pick this up and report back.

Sweet! Free cab!

I hope I don't get ridiculed for saying this, but I've actually seen a ghost and I do believe in them (didn't before that!). I may take a chance on the cab if I were in the area, but I wouldn't keep it for long if it really had those sort of issues. I am more inclined to think it's just paranoia winding them up.

I'd take the word of the 3-year old. Kids at that age have no filters, and don't know that there's "no such thing as ghosts".

My nephew (at the time, he was 4 years old) came over to our first house a couple of months after we moved in, and told us about the little girl "Marcy" who used to live in the spare room.

Soon after that, we got a chrome trash bin, and started to notice child's hand prints all over it .. which would re-appear after we cleaned them off.  :o

So a leper walks into a bar and as he gets his beer, a finger falls off. The bartender who is serving him turns and pukes all over the place. The leper, feeling bad, says, "Was it my finger falling off?" The bartender turns to him and says, "No, it's the guy dipping chips into your back."

I sincerely wish someone could prove there's such as thing as ghosts. You would think that with all those camer'as out there and the easy way people can commmunicate these day there would be solid proof by now. I would love to see something supernatural  :dunno
Wish list: Galaga, Pacman, Pooyan, Star Wars cockpit, Gauntlet, Tron

And the Lord spake, saying, 'First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three. No more. No less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three.

That's Freakin' Awesome! I wouldn't put it in my home but I'd definitely pick it up and put it in the shop or something.
Are you gonna actually pick it up tomorrow.
Seem kind of specific though... 9a.m. tuesday?

Let us know if you end up with it...

I believe there's something to this stuff.
This is a first hand story - not some friend of a friend deal.
Close friends of my parents tried for years and years to have a baby. Finally got pregnant and had a baby boy.
When he was 5 they got pregnant again. The very day the new boy was scheduled to come home from the  hospital the first born died completely unexpectedly.
They never told #2 he once had a brother.
Cut to 3 years later, boy #2 is in his bedroom talking up a storm. Mom says "what are you doing" he says "talking to that little boy in the corner, he says he's my brother"
I get goose bumps whenever I think about it.
If you could see the mom in my mothers kitchen shaking right after it happened you'd believe it too.

Haunted Ms. Pacman - who knows....

Ghosts?

Just get it. If no one in Boston wants it, ship it to me. As long as the ghost doesn't me, I don't care what he/she/it does.

Do ghosts like to fly ? I think so. Put it on a plane to Europe. I will take care of the Pac - Man.

I've never had anything like these things happen to me or heared about from people I trust. I don't believe in any of this. People watch movies too much.

Hadn't seen it... but it says must pick up at 9am Tuesday and it is 8:48am now.

I bet it's a scam of some sort, though.  Free games with no pics and a weird story around here are usually someone effing with collectors.

I emailed him last night that I was interested but curious why he was giving a great cabinet away for free. His response was "My life is very blessed so why not give it away?"

Dunno...sounds a bit fishy to me.

Heh, ghosts...  I do haunted house (scream houses/haunted attractions) reviews for the DFW area.  I have met a LOT of interesting folks, including several "ghost hunters".  I've been out on their ghost hunting expeditions several times and have never seen anything at all.  However they all get spooked at the slightest wind movement or dust on their expensive ass camera lenses...

I'd take this cabinet in a heartbeat, if anything just to have the ghost hunters come over and play it.

I e-mailed him too.  Here is the reponse:

No offense man, but you’re GIVING away a Pac man in good condition?  What’s the catch?
----------------------------------------------------------------
Someone gave it to me, at a time in my life when I could NEVER afford to buy something like this.  Now I'm giving it to someone else,

It's not worth much, maybe $500 or so.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

If this is all true, then he's a better man than I!

So did someone (here) go get it? I was going to email him last night, but it looked like a scam to me so I didn't bother. Besides, I figured one of you would scoop it up quick while I was thinking about it. :)

I could have gotten it this morning (it's like 20-30 min from me).

It reminded me a little of "Escape from Leprechaupolis" (ATHF). :)

I feel ripped off. I didn't get a response.

Since I didn't get one, I'll just invent one myself:

"Hi, We had a Tornado a few weeks ago and after the weather cleared we walked outside and found this machine sitting in our yard. I am still amazed it was intact after the incredible journey from wherever it came from. Thanks for you interest."

I sincerely wish someone could prove there's such as thing as ghosts. You would think that with all those camer'as out there and the easy way people can commmunicate these day there would be solid proof by now. I would love to see something supernatural  :dunno

There are already tons of pictures and videos out there that show "something". A picture or video will never be "solid proof" of anything because there are too many plausible explanations for what they show (including intentional fakery).

However, I know people who have seen and/or spoken with supernatural beings of some sort, and there are millions of others who have claimed as much. Even though I've never seen anything "supernatural", the fact that others have (some of them being people I know well); that's enough proof for me. I don't automatically assume someone is lying or crazy unless I know that what they are saying is not possible. And when it comes to what exists beyond the grasp of the 5 human senses, we know precisely jack ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.

I sincerely wish someone could prove there's such as thing as ghosts. You would think that with all those camer'as out there and the easy way people can commmunicate these day there would be solid proof by now. I would love to see something supernatural  :dunno

Why?
So a leper walks into a bar and as he gets his beer, a finger falls off. The bartender who is serving him turns and pukes all over the place. The leper, feeling bad, says, "Was it my finger falling off?" The bartender turns to him and says, "No, it's the guy dipping chips into your back."

I believe in ghosts.  In the house I grew up in had a ghost in it.

To this day if I am alone in the house I hear foot steps up stairs.

The ghost was a good ghost.  When I was growing up in protected me.  It would cover me up at night.  It was cold in my room.  Frost would get 1/4 inch thick on the inside of the windows.  I never got stung by a wasp.  They would come in from the attic at night.  I would wake up with them on my face.  I fell down the stairs a lot but never got more than a bruise.  I heard all kind of foot steps and other sounds that were very different from the sounds that the house made while settling or creaking.  The house was the hotel that the stage coach stopped at over night when it went from Owego to Ithaca.  It is over 170 years old.   In the early 50s someone hung themselves in one of the closets upstairs.  I think it took care of me because I was born in the house.
Careful what you wish for you may get it!!
There are 10 kind of people in the world those that understand binary and those that do not!!

I grew up in a 200 year old farm house near Saratoga,NY that I swear was haunted. The house was part of the underground railroad back in the day. It had all kinds of secret entrances, rooms, trap doors, hidden rooms in the basement (which had a dirt floor), etc.

Half the place was basically condemned. It's a 15 room house, but we only used about 6 rooms on 3/4's of the first floor. My bedroom just happened to be on the edge of the old condemned part. I had to leave a set off huge double doors open to that room because the wood stove that provided my heat was in there.

I heard many strange and and creepy things come from that room and the hallway behind it which lead up stairs. People talking, breathing, walking around, stuff rolling down the stairs... all kinds of stuff. I never saw anything but I didn't need too. The sounds were scary enough.

Some of the walls had holes in them which exposed old kids clothes, kids shoes, old fabric, newspapers, etc that were packed in for insulation in the early years. My step sister told me that there were people buried in the walls which freaked me out because of all the clothes you could see stuffed in the walls.

The house was also used during the battle of Saratoga for soldiers who were in the battle. A lot of wounded soldiers stayed and probably died there. If there's any ghosts I bet they are from that time period. I always though the sounds I heard from the basement at night were the ghosts of dead soldiers making noise.

On another note, one Historian in the area said most likely George Washington spent some time there which is kind of cool.

The secret passages were neat! You could go into a closet and come out on the complete other side of the house. The trap doors always freaked me out though because you could feel where they were under the carpet and I knew they led to the basement rooms.

I haven't been there in like 20 years. I'd like to go back and see if it's still as creepy as I remember. It appears to be in the same condition.

Just kind of rambling here, but this thread got me thinking about the old place.

Here's a picture I took of it when I was in 6th grade photography class back in '86.

Yes, I did meet him.  We usually met the talent at the annual company christmas parties.  I've also met Bill Kurtis, Harry Smith (now at CBS), Giselle Fernandez, Josh Bernstein (now at Discovery Channel) among others.  I once bumped into Marc Summers one time who hosted "History IQ" (he was the guy from Double-Dare on Nickelodeon) LOL.

Getting back to Jack Perkins, I once made a trip to Maine in the Acadia National Park region (Bar Harbor) and I remember seeing a local nature video of some sort that was hosted by him.  I thought it was hilarious. (On reflection - I should have bought the video and brought it back to work to show him and others - Oh well).

I too saw this on craiglist Monday.  I emailed and got no response.  Then I noticed another listing for Ms Pac-Man which seems to have been taken down.   It noted that there was a Ms Pac-Man for sale for $650 and that they could deliver it anywhere in boston Tuesday morning.  Sounds like it was promised to someone who was trying to turn it around for a profit.

Nothing like selling an arcade game you haven't even seen before.

Thanks for saying what shouldn't have been necessary to say.  If ghosts were real there would be scientific evidence of it.  There is not.  If you have indisputable proof that ghosts exist,  please point me in the direction... Again...INDISPUTABLE PROOF that was gathered in a scientific manor,  not some grainy footage taken by some drunk back in `76.

I classify ghosts in the same category as I classify God, Santa Claus,  The Tooth Fair,  and The Easter Bunny.  No one has provided indisputable proof of any of it.

Cool, I think I have seen that vid playing in some of the tourist shops here (I live in Bar Harbor) but I try to avoid the touristy stuff, and try to avoid tourists at all cost and as thus havent bought it. It's funny, Jack Perkins moved away, and then the next year Martha Stuart moved her summer home to NorthEast harbor (the town next to Bar harbor). It sucks, we lost a good resident only to have him replaced by MS.... :< But atleast she bought a boat from the boatyard my stepfather works at :/

Add me to the list of skeptics.  This is someone's idea of a prank, probably sparked by the abundance of want ads for "nearly free" arcade machines on Craigslist.  We all know that the machine would've lasted only minutes after being posted if it was legit.  He just strung people along to keep the dialog going before "awarding" the machine to someone who would then corroborate the myth.

I have two machines sitting right behind me as I work and see shadows flitting about in my periphery.  But they don't usually start until the 3rd pot of coffee and 20hours without sleep.  Any ghosts connected with these cabinets are just the ghosts of a lost era.

There is a Tooth Fair in Vermont every Sunday  ;) For the rest, I couldn't agree more. With all the digital camera's, CCTV's and means of instant communication out there you would expect some iron clad proof would have surfaced by now.

You would expect that a hoaxer would use something original and not take an idea from a CSI episode. http://www.csifiles.com/reviews/csi/swap_meet.shtml

A rumor no more, it's obviously quite haunted just by looking at the ghosts / Ms Pac Man.  And there is a 5th ghost.

If you believe the video / description.

I think I would have appreciated Kotaku linking to me since I had the story a day earlier (and the follow up earlier...). Ah well. I don't really care, it's not the first time Kotaku has ripped off a story of mine, and it definitely won't be the last.

I have had in interest in the paranormal for quite some time. If this is not made up BS that does not sound like a human spirit in that machine. It has all the makings of a demonic haunt.

With that being said it would be kinda cool to say "honey the ms pac man machine is bleeding again!"

seriously though I watch alot of a haunting paranormal state and ghost hunters plus do a lot of reading. I have never seen anything to make me believe in real life but there has been some interesting footage so I have a feeling this stuff could be real.

When I got my DK JR machine I was worried if maybe is was haunted LOL. Seems fine to me. It ain't haunted but it is sure as hell mean!

Human spirits are one thing but a demon is not to toy around with.

I'm glad someone brought up Paranormal State. That show is just for entertainment purposes. You'd have to be very gullible to believe anything in it is "real". They never really find anything substantial. They add tons of sound effects, so why wouldn't it be edited for dramatic effect too? That so called medium they use so much, he's an ACTOR who transferred his acting skills into pretending to talk to ghosts. His lengthy biography is on IMDB.

And isn't it just a wee bit odd that all the ghosts are catholic??! Oh I forgot, christianity is the one true religion right? And I guess the only way to deal with ghosts or "demons" is to use the catholic offshoot of it. IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW!

It's one thing to be "open minded" but just remember that being open to ANYTHING and EVERYTHING, just because you know NOTHING, is equivalent to why 5 year olds can be taught to believe ANYTHING. It's also why so many cons like "Q-Ray" bracelets exist and make huge profits. Ignorance + so called open-mindedness. People tell themselves "Well it MIGHT work. I don't know enough about the science to say it doesn't! Why would they lie?"

Develope your critical thinking skills people!  Creepy + old + long history != ghost. Being too closed-minded is no good, but being too open-minded is equally no good.
NO MORE!!

All shows about paranormal phenomena are for entertainment purposes only. The point is that I would like to see some scientific proof. Off course there's no scientific principle that supports anything like ghosts. There's lots of interesting reading material on that. For instance, why do ghosts wear clothes? Do pants and shirts have souls too? And why are your shoes not surrounded by the ghosts of cows?
Wish list: Galaga, Pacman, Pooyan, Star Wars cockpit, Gauntlet, Tron

And the Lord spake, saying, 'First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three. No more. No less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three.

We live on a big rock that is floating in the middle of infinite outer space. I don't understand why it is so hard to believe in something like ghosts.

Look around you...the fact that we as humans even exist. I mean someone or something that we cant see put us here. How far fetched it is to believe that maybe when you die sometimes you "cross over" just because you don't have a physical body does not mean you cant influence things.

If you ask me the notion of out very existence in pretty crazy. You know that thing that is responsible for day light. It is a huge ball of burning gas that is millions of miles away that we orbit around. I am pretty sure just cause I can see that does not make it any less amazing.

There are some many "crazy" things around us that we just take as normal if you think about it.

There is overwhelming evidence for the majority of the things you just listed, so I'm not sure how thinking "wow, that's pretty crazy" should have anything to do with the likelyhood that ghosts exist.  Is it just because that "would be pretty crazy?"

Are unicorns, leprechauns and cerberus likely to exist simply because it "would be pretty crazy" if they did?

Besides which, your point seems to be that the fact that we're even here is against all odds.  Okay, fine.  But then you immediately state "someone or something that we can't see put us here."  So you start by calling upon the unlikelyhood of our existence as a reason to believe in unlikely things, but then immediately posit that someone or something put us here.  How much more complex than we mere humans must such a being be in order to have the creative power to put us here?  How much more unlikely is it, then, for that thing to have existed in the first place?  It's an infinite regress.

So I'm not really sure I follow where you're going with your post.

If ghosts were real there would be scientific evidence of it.

Your statement here is not a fact.

First of all, your claim is tantamount to saying that at this point, no further scientific discoveries are possible; because everything that is real must already have scientific evidence of it.

Secondly, your statement presumes that everything that exists is consistently detectable by one or more of the 5 human senses (whether directly or aided by manmade tools). What an inexplicable coincidence that would be. It would be as if everything had to undergo a "human senses compatibility test" before being allowed to exist.

Quote
I classify ghosts in the same category as I classify God, Santa Claus,  The Tooth Fair,  and The Easter Bunny.

"God", or, a "first mover" has to exist, or has to have once existed at least. Logic demands it. If there was ever nothing, there would still be nothing; by default. So "God" doesn't exactly fit into your list. "Ghosts" don't fit into your list either, simply by virtue of millions of sincere adult witnesses.

While there is no concrete evidence that "ghosts" exist; a lack of scientific evidence does not in any way preclude their existence, like you seem to think.

You are correct that Ghosts haven't been DISPROVED...as God hasn't been DISPROVED...but neither have been proven either.  So yes,  they are the same as Santa Claus,  The Easter Bunny,  and The Tooth Fairy because they too haven't been DISPROVED either.

...and no,  I tend to believe there was never a "knowing God"...if you are talking about an energy source that is one thing...but a self-aware creator?  Doubtful.

Yeah, exactly, sorry I wasn't clear on that.

To sum up: Lots of evidence for us living on a near-spherical planet in empty space that orbits around a large, 20 million degree, near-sphere of hydrogen and helium; ghosts, not so much, despite the "craziness" of both ideas.

Why?

Is it necessary that for there ever to have been something, that something else must have "created" it?

If so, you are forced to explain the existence of something infinitely more complex than the universe.  To use something more complex than the universe, like a "first" mover, to explain the existence and complexity of the universe has put you at an even more difficult place than when you started: Explaining what caused the "first" mover.  So I suggest you rethink your position.

That's a pretty trivial point of comparison. There is a ton of circumstantial/anecdotal evidence to support the existence of "ghosts", while essentially no adult that is not mentally-handicapped is even suggesting that  "Santa Claus,  The Easter Bunny,  and The Tooth Fairy" are real, no more than anyone is suggesting that Rocky Balboa or Darth Vader are real. You are trying to trivialize something that there is much sincere debate over, by comparing it to fairy tales that are known to have been intentionally made-up.

That, incidentally, is why I prefer comparisons to things like unicorns and leprechauns, things that were once believed to exist, but which fell out of favor.

Ghosts haven't.  For whatever reason, the possibility of their existence seems more compatible with a "modern" mode of credulous thought.

According to Silvia Brown, there are. And the legions of suckers who buy her books and watch Montel just take her word for it.  Kind of like most religions. If its in the book, it must be true?

Why degrade this into a God debate? We're talking about the UNDEAD floating around and yet also being able to interact with physical world. OooOOOo scarrrry.

It's human nature to want to believe in fantastic things. I grew up reading everything about UFOs, ghosts, psychics, big foot, etc. In adulthood I came to understand that psychologically, it was just wishful thinking. It's human to wish there is more than the mundance reality we percieve. But that's the key there. Just because we wish for something more exciting to be real, doesn't make it real. We have to accept that maybe what's out there on this planet is what we make of it ourselves. Creator god or not.

Yup.  This is why only "first" gets put in quotes when I refer to a "first" mover.  All you're doing by positing a "first" mover is shifting the goalposts back.  You still need one more kick to get through, but just as you approach the ball, by the very nature of your argument you've backed them up another 50 yards.

By definition, a first mover is more complex than whatever it is he moved.  So if you're going to use such a device to explain our existence, you've created yourself quite a problem: You now have to explain where in the world something even MORE complex came from in the first place.  As I mentioned before, you have an infinite regress of "first" movers on your hands.

Edited to add: Aquinas was quite the thinker . . . in his day.  We've come a long way since hundreds of years ago.

Justin's concept, of course, assumes that complex life began on Earth.  We could easily be Populated Planet version 1908657th.

Personally, I figure it was all just a random sequence of events.  With enough time, and enough events, eventually something is going to click together in a meaningful way.  Probability demands it.

You don't have to explain where the "first mover" came from, you only need show logically that there must have been one. It is not even reasonable to suggest that the "first mover" need be explained, due to the fact that anything predating the universe would not necessarily be subject to the same rules as are present in the observable universe. It would be like ants in an ant farm assuming that humans can only walk so far before they hit a glass barrier.

PS: Something to think about, but why would a "conciousness" (ie:ghost) be subject to physical world laws like "scale" ? Why aren't appearances of so-called ghosts ever small and tiny, or big like a house? If a ghost can knock a couple glasses around, why aren't they also assuming large size and knocking boats or cars around?

People keep arguing that "there's got to be more than just the physical world we perceive" to explain the possibility of ghosts, yet for some reason then, these spirit things are then bound to some physical world laws and then not others. Let's see, they can bend light to make use see them, but they can't assume a different SIZE. Sorry, but that kills the concept right there in my point of view.

I accept your argument only on the basis that the first mover did not need to be a conscious being.

I call this first mover "Big Bang."  It's the best way I feel we can explain it with our current level of knowledge.

And yes, it's fun to imagine larger things than ourselves, a la the ants.  But you are talking about things we know to exist, and even the ants can perceive we humans, so to use your analogy in the way you did doesn't really make sense.

I accept your argument only on the basis that the first mover did not need to be a conscious being.

Well if you can imagine something that moved entirely of its own volition, as well as something whose movement resulted in an orderly universe, as being something other than an intelligent being; then that's fine—inexplicable, but fine.

It's not inexplicable at all.

If there's no need for God to have been "created" by something else, there's no need for the universe to have been "created" by something else.  It's really quite simple.

Except that God, by definition, exists outside of the universe. A creator is obviously separate from, and predates, the creation. You can only ever blindly speculate about the nature of God because you don't even know of one single rule governing his existence. On the other hand, we know plenty of rules which govern the universe.

Whether or not something created the "God" of this universe is irrelevant. The only thing that is relevant is the logical existence of a "first mover" relative to our observable universe. Where the "first mover" came from doesn't matter because that predates our universe and would fall into a category for which we have no common frame of reference, or even a single fact about.

You have made two unsupported assertions in your first paragraph.  Without supporting them, your argument can't stand.

They are:

- God exists outside the universe.
- A creator is obviously separate from, and predates, the creation.

Oddly enough, you immediately admit these premises are unsupported: "You can only blindly speculate about the nature of God because You don't know . . .  one single rule governing his existence."

But even stranger, you then go on to use these unsupported premises to support the "logic" of your argument, concluding that "the only thing that is relevant is the logical existence of a 'first mover' relative to our observable universe."

You have been harping on logic for the entirety of this discussion, but I'm not seeing it in your line of reasoning.  That said, I could be missing something.  If so, what is it?

Nope, that's by definition, like I said. A creator is by definition separate from, and predates, the creation.

That fact that words like "creator" and "creation" mean things, specific things, has nothing to do with the nature of God's existence. In order to create something, the creator must first exist. In order to qualify as a creation, it must be something other than what already exists. So as you can see, and as I said earlier, "A creator is by definition separate from, and predates, the creation."

Your stating something as fact does not make it fact.

Your definitions are fine, if you have support for them.  Do you?  If not, I will continue not to accept your definitions.

Incidentally, there are other problems with your definitions, including the implication that something that exists outside the universe can interact with things within it, and that something can exist outside the universe at all.

Lucky you  ::)
So a leper walks into a bar and as he gets his beer, a finger falls off. The bartender who is serving him turns and pukes all over the place. The leper, feeling bad, says, "Was it my finger falling off?" The bartender turns to him and says, "No, it's the guy dipping chips into your back."

This topic took a left turn somewhere near Albuquerque...

Argue about this elsewhere.

Is that a joke? Are you saying that you don't understand what the words "creator" and "creation" means? Do you not realize that it is self-evident that a creator predates and is separate from said creator's creation?

Incidentally, there are other problems with your definitions, including the implication that something that exists outside the universe can interact with things within it, and that something can exist outside the universe at all.

If it is agreed that there exists or existed a first mover which resulted in the observable universe (logically there must have been), then it follows that "something that exists outside the universe can interact with things within it, and that something can exist outside the universe at all"; because, a "first mover" by definition would have been outside of the universe which resulted from it. If the "first mover" was part of the universe, then it wouldn't have been the "first mover", because the "first mover" is what caused the universe to exist in the first place; and thus, couldn't have already been a part of it.

Are you trying to suggest that there hasn't been fairy tales and other stories INTENTIONALLY MADE-UP regarding ghosts?  You don't see the parity?  Are ghost stories and different than stories of Rudolph or Frosty?

Max, based on your most recent reply, we are clearly talking at cross purposes (I suspected as much).  Given that, and since others are complaining about our discussion, I don't mind ending it here.

Thanks for the brain exercise today.

Duh.

As for ghosts, First Mover, and so on. So what if they're real or not? It's one of those circular arguments where you have one side debating they don't exist and the other side presenting that they do. If the existance of ghosts is disproved or proved, I'll modify my methodology and move on. Meanwhile, I'll be more than happy to enjoy the movies.

Some have, just like there has been intentional fiction created about pretty much every subject. But there are a lot of people who sincerely believe they have witnessed a "ghost". Some of them are people I know. Who beyond a child or mentally handicapped person sincerely believes they have witnessed Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, or the Easter Bunny? Those are known products of intentional fiction.

There is overwhelming evidence for the majority of the things you just listed

Which things and where is the overwhelming evidence?

Quote from: ahofle
I think he means us living on a big rock in space, orbiting around a sun which is made out of burning gas, etc.

Yea I was not trying to argue that ghosts are real... I was just trying to make the point that some of the things that are normal are quite weird.

HELLO!

I'm a producer on SyFy's Paranormal Witness. I am looking to find out more about the Haunted Ms Pac-Man Cabinet to potentially feature in one of our shows. Who would be the best person to talk to about this?

Thanks,

WOW.  Talk about bringing a derailed thread back from the dead.

GHOST THREAD.

Wait... does this mean BYOAC is haunted?

Just in case Cimran86 is serious... and since I may be one of the only folks originally from this thread still standing...

I never heard of anyone actually getting this game nor did I ever see any evidence that it was anything more than a joke post on Craigslist.

ZOMBIE THREAD WANTS BRAAAAIIIIIINNNSS!

ZOMBIE THREAD DISAPPOINT!

ZOMBIE THREAD HUNGRY  :-[

Yes, especially every year around april fools a butt load of "free" arcade machine posts pop up on cragislist, ebay, etc. with varying stories. Surely you jest on the day of fools?!

Don't worry, i'll get this thread pushed into Pn'R...hold on kids, this is going to be a bumpy ride...

god's existence is proved only by what is written in a book.

therefore, spiderman exists because there is a book about him.
therefore, harry potter exists because there is a book about him.
therefore, the world of alice in wonderland exists because there is a book about that.

How stupid do I sound now??

I believe he is serious, as he's provided his professional credentials in his own thread. There's a huge market in the supernatural, and has been for a long time, so I'm not surprised he'd be exhausting all of the options in investigating what could be a sensational story.

Ive been out on a call similar to this... One, aparently the owner felt "watched" as she played, after a lot of thought, I came up with the only explanation I could think of, Witch is,  radiation,... the manual warns againt it for the serviceman, So if someone was to play for long stretches of time they would be exposed to Xrays, creating mind tricks. this may account for the "haunting".

I often become possessed when I attach myself to a case of beer.  After a few hours with said beer I begin to speak in tounges and vomit uncontrollably.  I also have been told that when I fall asleep I snore and I sound like a demon.

Faulty monitors can give you ghosting.  I wonder if that was the ghost the Pac Man owner was talking about.    ;D

Not all experiences with ghosts involve visual proof. I have experienced an occurrence, ever since our first born was stillborn, and my wife had experienced it as well. Always when driving in the car, what feels like a rolling/kicking from the back of the driver and passenger seat. Like a child pushing or kicking feet at the back of the seat. I submitted my story to Ghost Hunters, but they clearly don't make trips to Canada :)

No ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- there I was, 2006 Zabul Province Afghanistan, cleaning my weapon and listening to the boys talk about the first fast food they'd eat when they got home (deployments spark these kinds of debates all the time) - when all of the sudden there is shooting all around us.  Holy hell! We're under attack, everyone, to the wall!  Wait, there is only outgoing fire, what the hell...

Across the compound the ANA (Afghan National Army) Soldiers are bombed out of their skulls on hash, naswar, and god knows what else firing at the mountain side.  We run to their wild eyed commander and through our interpreter manage to make out, "Ghosts!  Ghosts of the mujahedin riding the backs of fiery d'jinn have come to take their vengeance upon us!" before he emptied yet another clip into the air.

damn ghosts.
