Wiki question - thumbs on cab index page?

(1/5) > >>

MazzMn:
Hello wizards of wiki
I wanted to point out that on this Main Forum thread
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=77252.0
We have been discussing creating a wiki page that lists thumbnails of each cab...in fact started making changes to the Cocktail cabinets index
http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Cocktail_cabinets
It looks like performance will be ok even for the humungo Upright list, agree???

Also how did so these wiki entries get created without images? I wish it was kosher for us to just archive images from the links provided.

Anyway, just wanted to bring this discussion to the correct forum

FWIW, a two column table was suggested, so I put a sample of what that looks like in the wiki discussion page

Seems like a good use of space to me, but then it would be hard to keep the list alphabetical

As for pics, I'm finding a lot of entries that go nowhere, and have no information really. I'm updating links where I can find corrected ones (even searching The WayBack Machine for images), but I have not dealt with dead-links at all, yet. (Not sure of protocol)

I'm uploading the 'noimage.jpg' pic into each project page, so if the image is updated (down the road) in their project page (by just uploading over the black image), the thumbnail will automatically be updated as well, since it pulls the filename from their project. Just a heads up.

As for the two column layout, I think it certainly looks nice, but as you say, it will complicate the listing process...and from my perspective, anything that makes the upkeep/updating of the wiki difficult, the less likely people are to add to it in the future, unfortunately.

I'm all for keeping it simple, even if it's not the most beautiful approach.

mr.Curmudgeon:
Thought about it a bit more...

What about splitting the Upright Cabinet page into two (or more) separate alphabetically organized subpages, ie:

Upright Cabs - #-M
Upright Cabs - N-Z

Just a thought...

Cakemeister:
We should probably move the "no image" ones to the dead links section.

mr.Curmudgeon:
Eventually...   ;D

Also note, for those of you adding images...I suggest we keep them all horizontal (landscape) in nature, so the thumbnails all look similar. I'm editing some of them in Photoshop in order to keep the format the same.

Not a huge extra step, and the end result looks nice. I think.
