Stret Fighter 2 CE MAME
« on: April 30, 2008, 03:32:27 pm »
I have a few questions to start with.
1. What buttons do I use? I want concave.
2. Joysticks for under $25?? Happ comp?

A few weeks ago I picked up a SF2:CE that when I got it was running tekken tag. No monitor bezel or marquee for $75.

So far I have ordered buttons, ipaq2 and built my computer.

I love the Happ Ultimate pushbuttons, and their 1-4 player buttons match them nicely
link: http://happ.com/pushbuttons/539200xx.htm

and the Mag-stik from Ultimarc is really nice, i got mine in and i love the way it feels, and the clicking. They are only $24, the reason i suggest them is because even though they are more expensive than the happ ones, you dont have to dissasemble them to change from 4 to 8 way, its just the flip of a switch. Really worth the extra money.

I have heard a lot of negative things about the 8 way in the mag sticks. Can you attest to that? I was thinking the mag sticks at first.

Happ Competition with Convex Happ competition buttons, Higher quality than the Super stick, and the buttons are much nicer than Concaves.

My actual recommendation would be Sanwa JLF sticks with Sanwa OSBN buttons, but most people here are fans of american style parts over Japanese.  For me its Japanese all the way (I've got 1 HAPP Stick for the sake of Marvel, and the other... 5 or 6 sticks in the house are all japanese)

Thanks for all the help. I think I will be ordering my Ipaq2 in the next few days. When I unloaded the cab it said Capcom Street Fighter 3  on the back! I think I will try to "restore" all the art once I figure out which SF it is!

THe only negative thing i have to say about the 8 way in the mag stick is that it is just a little less movement than the 4 way. Either way i love it, but its seriously up to you.

Stay away from Happ Ultimates!!! The ultimte line replicate the feel of older sticks/buttons. They take more pressure to depress and have a longer travel. If you're getting controls for a fighter, get a Happ competition stick and get the normal concave happ pushbuttons. I dont remember what the buttons were called on happ's website, They were either just regular happ pushbuttons or hrizontal pushbutton with microswitch.

Thanks. I just placed my order for the ipaq and buttons today. I ended up going with the happ concave ones. Still uncertain on the sticks. The ones on my cab look like the happ comp sticks form happs site. Im going to see if they will work for the time being.

The buttons I used on my Street Fighter 2 cab are Pushbutton With
Horizontal Microswitch: http://www.happcontrols.com/pushbuttons/5891xxl.htm
These were the perfect choice of button for Street fighter, EXACTLY same feel as I remember playing Street Fighter back in the nineties.

Add a Happ competition, and you have the perfect Street Fighter setup: http://happ.com/joysticks/competition_joy.htm

You can buy Happ Competition and the original iL produced Competition sticks from Lizard Lick Amusements.  That's where I got mine anyway.  They're good people.  Took the time to separately ship me one tiny actuator that got left out of my order. http://www.lizardlickamusements.com/pages/joysticks.shtml

Hmm, I have a SF2 CE board I'm about to sell in a reconditioned cabinet but its not a genuine one so no sideart...

Any chance you have high res scans or existing soft copies of the marquee and/or control panel artwork?

I have both, PM me if you still need them. I have them in 300dpi ready to print. Just to let you know SF2CE came with two different CPO's the one in the picture above and the more common one found on the Dynamo cut corner cabs. The Dynamo version is the one i have. The difference is, the Dynamo version had a smaller instruction card (the yellow card between the joystics) and the red CAPCOM logo was directly bellow the second players buttons. The actual cutouts for the buttons and joystics were set higher too.  So their not compatible with each other. As far as the marquee, bezel and side art goes, they can be used on both cabs. I have them too by the way. When you say "reconditioned cabinet" are you talking about a Dynamo? To me the Dynamo version feels more original cause i grew up with them. I must of seen dozens of SF2CE's in Dynamos, and maybe one in the cab pictured above. Anyways if you do have a Dynamo the prints i have are perfect for it, even if you have the round corner Dynamo the CPO will still work. Its actually easier to apply it on a round corner Dynamo, saves you the trouble of cutting the corners. Anyways let me know.
