Question about car insurance claims
shmokes:
Something like $1050. $500 deductible (for some reason I was thinking my deductible was $250, but it's $500). There's NO WAY that the damage done by this accident could have caused the damage that already existed on the bumper up until Friday, though. Nobody would even consider the possibility. So had I waited a couple more weeks to get it fixed it's not like I would have got the prior damage fixed for free. Wouldn't that have been salt in the wound . . . :)
MUCH more damage this time. $3,000, I guess, but I really have no idea. The rear-drivers side door is smashed in, and the frame below it is badly bent, and the real wheel has a great deal of cosmetic damage -- not sure if that can be repaired or if it must be replaced. I'm concerned about the back wheel being hit. It's scratched up really bad. It feels like it's driving fine, but I'm worried about potential effects this might have on the axle that might not be immediately apparent to the body shop. I'm sure the overall damage is not bad enough to total the car, though.
Bad luck. This will the third time the car has been in the shop. It's a 2006 Honda Civic! For crying out loud. Someone backed into it in a parking lot within our first six months of owning it. Then there was the flying chunk of tire destroying the front bumper. Now this. None of them were our fault -- or even avoidable.

Frame as in rails that run under the length of the car, or the frame the door seats in?
If its not unibody, and the frame rails are bent, kiss it goodbye. Most places will total a car for bent frame rails anymore.

The Civic is a unibody car.

I got a 2008 Honda Fit recently. Three days later I got rear-ended on my way home from work. My first new vehicle EVAR! :banghead: Nobody ever bothered to hit my old crappy pickup.
ChadTower:
How does the Fit look in terms of being able to move a game? If I don't replace my Civic with a Tacoma when the time comes, it might be a Fit.
