Super Pacman upright Restore
«
on:
February 21, 2008, 04:13:32 pm »
In the middle of restoring/repairing a original Super Pacman upright. Artwork seems to be painted on and not able to find a repro of the artwork via decal/sticker.
Has anyone seen someone do a restore and what did they did for the artwork?
Thanks

You need a stencil set I believe. Don't know where to find them.

Here is a blog that was very specific to the restoration of a Super Pac-man. It doesn't cover every piece of the restoration, because not everything needed to be replaced. But it does cover a lot, including some stuff on re-doing the artwork.

You will probably need a stencil though, that is correct. And I would be wary of using the vector files on localarcade. I don't have a Super Pac-man to compare, but if it is as inaccurate as the Pac-man artwork, you might be in for a rude awakening.

I basically masked off the existing artwork and re-painted my super pacman cab; used a foam roller for the blue and yellow krylon spray for the yellow; the red paint was ok on mine... Worked pretty well; not 100% perfect - couple of overspray problems, but did the job. Most people think it looks brand new. I used that restoration blog as a guide.

So, when you painted over the old artwork, masking off different sections, did you sand down dents and chip first and patch them? Does the paint show any damage through?
You didn't sand down to bare cabinet did you?

Yah sanded with fine sandpaper; patched with a little bondo in a couple of places where there were small dents. Put a couple of coats of both the blue and the yellow, and it looks fairly pristine.

I would be curious to see the work, do you have any photos overall, and some detail shots to show off your final product?

Unfortunately I was bad about documenting the process, and now I have the machine stuck in a corner in my office where it would be hard to get a decent photo of the repainted side art...
