Euro cabs
« on: February 11, 2008, 02:46:09 pm »
I'm seeing so many European versions of well-known games lately that I thought it might be fun to open a thread about them.  It may also be fun to show some "general"/Jamma cabs from Europe.

Please post whatever you got....

Here's my first:
Caterpillar, of course a Centipede bootleg (from Italy) This is actually for sale now here...:

I stole the 2nd pic from KLOV because I really dig that side-art !!!

Mechanized Attack by SNK. This one has full-size art and kick-plate art. Both are different from the "regular"  US (?) version:

OK, this one is a bit out of my scope, I hate Photoplays, but I thought this looked kinda nice:

Posted this one already in my "asteroids" thread, but thought it is interesting enough to re-post here:

A direct Asteroids clone, most likely a bootleg by HOEI international (this is WRONGLY indicated here:
http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=thumbs&db=videodb&id=2394)

Very poor quality pictures but pretty weird: Galactica. Likely an Italian cab.
Game in it is (bootleg) Time Pilot.

I posted this already in the "most ugly cab ever" thread but it fits here as well:

This is a typical Belgian universal cab. Looks to be meant to blend in with the rest of the bar's interior :D

The Space Invaders went very quickly off the advertising site, so I bet it  got sold.

I know who has that Meteor now......and uhm, let's say that I have some hope of adding it to my collection in the future..... :)

What a fabulous side-art, compare it to the boring US-version !

Space Empire.....wonder what clone this is....

[EDIT] I thin this one was built by Hoei International (just like the Meteor (Asteroids clone).
I think this because:
1) exactly the same start buttons
2) the same T-molding
3) exactly the same coin door and mechs.

Condor (=Phoenix clone but with a fuel option added. KLOV says this is the first game with that feature (and not Scramble).

Look at the player 1 and 2 buttons ! Nicely recessed. Looks a bit like Atari vulcano's....

I first thought the side-art was damaged, but it looks the same on both sides.....weird.

Nice idea  :applaud:

I think I can add some:

1) wall mounted Lady Bug (according to the upright machine you posted)

2) Zaccaria licensed Scramble

3) Take Off, a copy of Rip Off

More to come...have to take some pics :)

I >LOVE< that Scramble art !!! Italian design at it's best :D

That Take-Off side art recycles the alien of the original art of the Japanese Namco Galaxian cab (of which a European version was also built in Italy) !!!:

Already found some more pics, will upload them later...

Thank you so much for posting these. I've enjoyed the art on most all of these. From what I've seen on the web there doesn't seem to be a lot documented about euro cabs. It's great to see so many in one place.

This one is clearly missing the original bezel which makes the color-feast complete....

Oh, that's gotta be Ikari Warriors or something like it. Note the similarity in theme and art, and the rotary sticks.

And since we're doing real oldies:

Tenniscoop 2

Yes, just another Pong clone but there are some special things about it.

First, it's a Bally, but built in Belgium ! (I know Bally did build Bingo's there but didn't know about videogames).

It has analogue joysticks so obviously you can move left and right too, which I'd consider a less desirable "option" on a Pong game.

The machine looks REALLY nice. Built in 1974 and has been in sellers hands for 20 years which probably explains it's nice condition.

The monitor has a Philips tube and still looks great (Dutch quality :D) Look at the weird place for the HV cup !
The chassis looks nice and basic too :D

By the way, is there still any interest here for this thread ? I'm thinking about moving it to KLOV forum as it seems more appropriate there.....
Keep it going here.  ;)

I think most of you know that I love the German wall machines and so I'm very proud today to present you these great pictures of a fully working Meteor (bootleg Asteroids) machine by ADP/Gauselmann. It's running a bootleg game board. The Roms show "Astroimpact" instead of Asteroids as title but otherwise the ROMs are identical. The monitor is a G05-805. I think it looks absolutely stunning !

Look at the controls :D

Here's how a Frogger cab should look like, this _really_ puts the ugly Sega/Gremlin US cab to shame:

Licensed NSM release !

No idea but I guess it's smaller than your regular (US) sized cab. Euro cabs tend to be a bit more compact. It's probably bigger than a cabaret though and I assume the monitor is 19".

Remember this one ?

Space Invader (yes without the s):

Another one (I think) surfaced !!! Better pics:

Pic 1: I like it ! It's only 150 cm's high acc. to the seller

Pic 2: Looks like the monitor needs some work, but there is some kind of mirror set-up like the original

Pic 3: Aha, so that is how Logitech started ;)

Just wanted to point you to two Euro cabs that are interesting enough (I think).

Euro Donkey Kong (Germany, licensed):

Some very nice Euro cabs found by ChrisChris:

Some Space Invaders bootlegs I've seen before, but that 1st Super Invaders (with cool Star Wars bootleg art) is new to me !

I esp. like the Galaxie 2 and Pull Down cabs:

Nice thread this is, and I would like to share some pictures of machines I have.

The first one is a generic cabinet that was very common in Sweden (and probably the rest of Scandinavia) since it was built in Denmark by a company called JK Automater. There were different models with different sized screens. This one is a "deluxe" model with bigger screen and stereo speakers.
The most common model had a single speaker and a smaller screen. However the smaller screen was very easy to rotate, so within a minute you can swap from VER to HOR position.

The second cabinet is generic NSM made in Germany. A bit smaller but larger than a cabaret model. I don't know if it is just this one, or if the Germans always made their own standard, rather than use a JAMMA harness internally. It took me a while to do an adapter... It is easy to rotate the screen in this one too.

And the third one, is a license built wall mount Break Out cabinet. I heard rumours about that there is also Canyon Bomber and other Atari models out there. Unfortunately my machine has a broken tube neck, so I have never played it. Trying to find a new (10") tube for replacement. The PCB is however original and looks to be in good condition.
This one is also designed for convenient screen rotation.

Building, collecting and playing arcade machines :)

This thread is awesome.  It is like looking at cabinets from some alternate reality.  Really cool stuff.

I especially enjoyed the Q*Bert road trip thread.  I'm anxious to get through his restoration thread as well.
