Coin Door working with Mame?

Whoops!

I jumped to the conclusion about the credit buttons based on Zobeid's post:

So I assumed that the inserts were for those.

Zobeid, which credit buttons were you referring to?

Zobeid:

I was referring to the coin-reject buttons on an actual, working coin door.

I was looking at the NovaGemCDR buttons earlier, but now have almost talked myself into getting a real coin door instead. . .  and some tokens.

BTW, I was cleaning out an old desk today and found a couple of vintage tokens that I  had in my pocket when I wandered out of some arcades, misty moons ago.  One is from Aladdin's Castle and the other is marked, appropriately, YESTERDAY'S.  That is nostalgia.   :'(

If you find a used door, Peale just posted a new thread in B/S/T for some token mechs.

Retro_SA:

Unfortunately I can't buy from Ebay or from someone on this forum.  Most of these people want payment through PayPal and since I'm in South Africa, I can't use PayPal.  Any other online shops for arcade parts apart from Happ, Ultimarc, Arcadeshop and GroovyGameGear?

Crowquill:

Retro_SA--Are there any places in South Africa that deal with arcade games? Someplace that might have some old parts laying around? The coin doors are expensive enough but shipping can be really high on these too as they're almost entirely metal.

I'm wondering too why you're trying to avoid coin mechs. The mechs are the part of the door that guides the coin between the slot and the switch that "coins up" the game. The mechs themselves are interchangeable between most coin doors and some can be modified to take almost any coin.

Here's some pics of the disassembled plunger from a Happ over/under coin door. As you can see it's just a thin white piece of plastic with screen-printed artwork. It slides into a slot in the coin return plunger itself. There might be different variations of this coin door, but both this one (the factory door on my Neo-Geo cabinet) and the one on my Primal Rage cabinet are identical.

On the Coin Controls coin door on my MAME cab the front of the plunger snaps off and the insert just sandwiches between it and the main plunger itself.
