this is especially good for us because we are guilty of using a lot of coal for our power. a country with so much sunlight...

Well, so much for E-Z bake ovens and LavaLamps... I dont think they should make them outright illegal, maybe keep certain ones marketed for a reason other than a general purpose light bulb...

(Hell, I am using a 40 watt lightbulb in the cupboard to keep the pipes from freezing, as I have the heat downstairs turned off)

I use 'em (CFL) in selected lamps.  One of my gripes?  Won't work with X-10 stuff.  Even with an appliance module, they turn right back on after turning them off.  It pulls enough current to trigger the "Hey, the guy hit the switch" mode...
