How to set IPAC to use ESC/TAB key?
HeadRusch:
Its gotta be the paint fumes down here ;)...
Ok, in the new Utility...you open it up and its got, essentially, what amounts to a graphical layout of your Player 1 joystick. a Start Button, a Coin Button, and 8 regular buttons are listed in the app.
You click once on the screen, say, on button 1. That puts it into "ready to receive" mode.
Then, on your control panel, you push whatever button you want to represent player 1 button 1.
See, the way this application is layed out (The new one, I havent used the old one) I'd need to see an ESCAPE button listed in the gui. Then I'd click on the ESC button, THEN press the button on my CP that I want to represent the "ESC" key.
Only problem is, there IS no ESC button......if I right-click on the buttons it gives you a limited menu to select "BLANK" (or none), "POWER", "APPLICATION"...and 1 or two others..but no Tab, no ESC.
Hmmmmmmm.........

You don't push a button on your control panel at all. You select a button in the utility then press the key you want to program it to on your KEYBOARD. Then save it. This is also assuming you have the jumper on the iPac set to Alt and not Mame.
BobA:
You can assign ESC to any of the 10 or so buttons and 4 joystick directions. EG pick 4 and hit esc. I dont think you can change your esc key on the keyboard to another button. It is only changing the IPAC assignments. The esc key has to be wired to any of the buttons on the ipac and then assigned to esc.

Ummmm. Ok, so then am I COMPLETELY USING THE UTILITY THE WRONG WAY!???
I fire Andy's WinIPAC up................I see joysticks for players 1 and 2, and then a bunch of buttons for each.
With the jumper set to ALT, I would click on the joystick button 1....and then I'd press the button on my CP that I wanted to "MAP" to Player 1 Fire 1.
Am I completely using this thing the wrong way????

Yes, you are. You press button on the utility, that represents an input from your CP. You then press a KEYBOARD key to map that button to.
