What to do in Las Vegas for a weekend?
Dartful Dodger:
I forgot about this place Austins Steakhouse. A friend read that it was the best steak place in Vegas, so we decided to go to it. It's in one of those casinos that looks like a pit.(and the casino is) but the food was incredible, probably the best the pan-seared rib eye I've had outside of Texas. Even better than some inside of Texas.
If you're going to this place and you have a Nevada conceal carry permit, I'd highly recommend you be carrying.

It seems that Vegas is yet another polarizing topic on this board. I've had very nice stays in Vegas - wonderful suite at MGM Grand, incredible strip view suite at THE Hotel at Mandalay Bay, nice room at Mandalay Bay, and an very nice suite at the Venetian. Plenty of seating, plasma tv's in teh rooms, etc. Nearly every casino (on the strip at least) now has a non-smoking section, and frankly in those areas you rarely have to wait to get a seat at a table game.
Yes, I agree, the days of the cheap food and incredible bargains are gone. Big corporations have taken over and the scale has increased by a HUGE scale, so has the cost. But, if you're willing to spend a reasonable amount of money - frankly no more than you would in LA, Seattle, NYC, or San Fran, you can have an incredible meal at one of the many 4 star restaurants. If you like sushi/sashimi, I highly Nobu @ the Hard Rock cafe...spendy but WELL worth it. If raw fish isn't your deal, get the Yakimono....mmm

I think you'll have as much fun as you want to have. If you go there with some friends or your girlfriend or wife and set out to have a good time, you'll probably do just that. If you go there with the idea that everything sucks, well... Are you familiar with the phrase "self-fulfilling prophecy"?
Hell, I went with my wife *and* kids. Didn't drink or gamble and we still had a good time.

I agree... you do have to be prepared to spend alot. We always stay in a suite at the Luxor after staying at some cheaper places and not liking them. It's a tourist city, of course it'll be expensive.
Now San Fran.. that's a city I can jump on the trash wagon about.. :)
