twin engined, twin turbocharged, each engine was 11 litres!
here you can see it overtaking a rally car. i think patrickl and level will have a soft spot for the ol DAF too (",)
same speed as the lambo, but the daf can just run straight over the top of it ;D

Yeah those were amazing. Sad they cripled the truck class so they cannot really compete anymore. Although a DAF truck did get the navigator killed, so it's probably for the best that they don't go so fast anymore.
The new trucks are cool too. The new Ginaf trucks have independent suspension so they don't bounce over the dunes like the fixed axle trucks, but go over it like a regular car. It's amazing to see how those things go over huge bumps at speed.
Actually the old DAF cars were cool too (they looked a bit like a dutch version of the trabant). They were slow driving forwards, but they could go just as fast backwards as forwards. It started a whole new race class of people racing backwards ::)
The Porshce 959 was a pretty cool desert racer too:

yep, my uncle had one of those. infinitely variable gearbox. hence the same speed forwards or backwards. shame it wasnt reliable...

Christ Almighty! That is a monster!
String a bunch of them together and you have the Mammoth Car from Speed Racer!
