That's the way to go!

Gotta say that not only is the ATI RW a great remote, but the PCRC makes it so much better. And, come on, with PCRC almost any remote/receiver combination could be an universal PC remote... (Yeah, I'm REALLY happy with it :) ..) Two entirely different remotes = one happy customer  ;D

And the beauty of PCRC with any supported remote: You'll be able to control more or less all your software with only one remote controller. Considering the options, it should be double the current price (Hope the author won't be reading this...)

PS. If you use the ATI RW, be sure to check out this site too: http://remotew.free.fr/index.htm

Yes, I am very happy as well ...... thanks for all your help

unclet & psychotech,
It's late and I skimmed over some of this post (I'll re-read it tomorrow morning), but can you summarize what Hardware and Software you used to get this to work?
an ATI Remote Wonder Plus and PCRC receiver? (who makes the receiver?)

unclet:

ATI makes three "wonder" remotes (Wonder, Wonder II and Wonder Plus).  I bought the Wonder Plus.  This package contains the remote control (which uses a couple of batteries) as well as the receiver part which connects to the PC.   Once you install the software for this remote you can use it to control certain applications on your PC.  It also comes with 6 programmable buttons on the remote (A,B,C,D,E,F) which can be mapped to keyboard keys to let you do whatever you want.  If this is all you want then just use the remote as is and you will be fine.

Now, I wanted to take it one step further.  I wanted to use the ATI remote to control my own jukebox software and wanted to use the "real" remote buttons like play, pause, volumeUp, volumeDown. numeric buttons, etc... etc...   Basically, I did not want to use the A,B,C,D,E,F button keys because who in the world is going to know what these buttons represent and also I needed more than just 6 programmable buttons as well.  This is where the "PC Remote Control (PCRC)" application comes in .......

The PCRC is an application which you can download and install on your PC which will intercept the ATI remote control signals after they come into the receiver and will then change them to keyboard key presses which you previously assigned.

So, you will need to first install the ATI Remote Wonder Plus software and then install the PCRC software.  Then following the instructions in this post to configure both and it should work fine.

Things to note:

1) You will need to register to PCRC software or you will only be able to map 4 buttons and this will expire in 30 days.

2) When you install the ATI Remote Wonder Plus software it allows you to install the "Install" package or the "Remote Wonder" package.   I only installed the "Remote Wonder" package.   The "Install" package will install all the "ATI Catalyst Multimedia Center" application stuff on your computer but since I did not need any of that, I did not install it.

Here is my personal notes I took indicating all the steps you need to do perform to install eveything to work with my jukebox software:

--- Quote ---1) Put "ATI Remote Wonder" Install disk into drive.  There will be a choices to select "Install" and "Remote Wonder".  Choose to install "Remote Wonder" only since I do not need the Catalyst MultiMedia software package, I just need the basic drivers and stuff to make the remote control work.

2) Goto "http://www.pcremotecontrol.com/software/pcrcsoft.htm" to download the PCRC software.  Execute the "PCRemoteControl4Setup_213.exe" file to install the "PC Remote Control" application.  Use crack file to register it.

3) From the PCRC install directory, copy the file "ATIRWPlugin.dll" plugin file into the ATI Remote Wonder's plug-ins folder.

4) Open the ATI Remote Wonder's application by clicking on the icon in the task bar and on the PlugIn's tab, click the "Import" button and import the "ATIRWPlugin.dll" plugin file.  Then press "Configure" button to obtain the values required for to be set in the PCRC application.

Example:  Values are equal with tolerance = 0
                    Timeout after recognition       = 550

5) Go into "File/Settings" menu and set the following, then do File/Save:

   Recognition Tab
Set the recognition parameters as indicated in (4) above

   General Tab
     check "Launch on Windows Startup"
     check "Load minimized on Tray"

   Origin of Control
uncheck "Serial Port" (since we are not using this interface)

6) Start "UncleTs Jukebox" application so the window is an active window on the desktop

7) In PCRC, open the "Actual layout" dialog by clicking on the "..." button

8 ) Search for the main "UncleTs Jukebox" application window which is listed, click "Add to layouts" button and then click "Accept" button.

9) Back in the main PCRC screen, select the "UncleTs Jukebox" from the list of "Actual layouts"

10) Import the "ATI Remote Wonder" remote commands by selecting the following existing file located in the "File/Import Commands" menu:

      "C:\Program Files\PCRC\Examples\ATI Remote Wonder.pcr"

This should populate the "Remote commands" section with a list of all command buttons (play, pause, volumeUp, etc...) on the ATI Remote Wonder remote control which are available to be mapped.

11) In the "Execute Action" section, click the NEW button and create a new "Action name" (ex: "Play")

12) Activate the "Play" entry which is listed in the "Remote commands" list by clicking the "Play" command (or by simply pushing the play button on the ATI Remote Wonder remote control)

13) Drag the "Play" list entry from the "Remote commands" list into the "Trigger commands" listbox.

14) Select the "Actions list" tab and click on NEW button.

Note: This will allow to map a key to the remote control "Play" button

15) In the "Details" section, select "Particular key(s)", put the cursor in the textbox to the right of it and press a key from the keyboard to be associated with the "Play" remote control button.

16) Click ACCEPT button.

17) Repeat steps (11 thru 16) for each new remote control mapping required

18) Select "File/Save" to save all changes

19) Click "RUN!" button to start the PCRC software and confirm all mappings

--- End quote ---

Hope this helps

digitaldj:

Hey Guys,

Got a problem! I got my new remotes and downloaded all the software I needed, PCRC and ATI Remote Wonder. The ATI Remote Wonder software I downloaded did not have the option for installing Catalyst like what was listed in the directions above. Got everything installed PCRC installed fine but ATI Remote Wonder installed but gave me a ATIRW.dll failed to initialize. I copied and moved the ATIRW.dll to the windows system32 folder and reset the computer. After resetting the computer I got ATIRW.exe application failed to start MFC71.dll not found. I did a search on C: drive where everything including XP is installed and couldn't find the file. What do I need to do next and where can I find MFC71.dll?

Thanks,
Kevin
