am i the only one that liked Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions??
Hockeyboy:
I actually liked the 2nd one, but didn't enjoy the 3rd one so much. I really thought the whole driving/freeway/flying scene was incredible, even after seeing the special effects piece on how it was done. In the 3rd one, those walking and shooting machines reminded me so much of Mechwarriors, but with that many "squids" there's no way they had a chance.
It's just too easy for people to criticize the entire Matrix series of movies, but those movies brought to life all sorts of new movie technology that just hadn't been seen before.
Howard_Casto:
Yes, yes you were. For that matter, like some of the others, I didn't even think the 1st one was all that great. See it was hearalded by critics and the general public alike because, both the critics and the general public are lame and about 10-15 years behind the times with people who actually enjoy cinema. In other words, the "normals" probably did get a kick out of it, but let's face it, the people that hang around this board are way more hip than that. To put it bluntly, we are more cultured (pop culture still counts as culture) and have better taste in films.
While all of hollywood was creaming it's pants at the "innovative art style and imaginative writing" I was sitting around yawning at the poorly executed hybrid of tron, terminator and ghost in a shell. And of course people bashed me for that and then they later interview the Watowski (spelling?) Brothers and they basically say in a round about way "Oh yeah, we totally ripped off ghost in a shell, the look the style, parts of the plot and everything."
And of course since most of us have been watching anime (regularly, small blips like voltron don't count) since akira came out in the mid 90's nd it's been around 10 years, hollywood and the general public are finally catching up again. The super hero movie is out, the anime to live action conversion is in. In the next 3 years we will be "treated" to American, theatrical versions of:
Speed Racer
Battle of the Planets
Voltron
Dragon Ball Z
And these are the confirmed ones taht are already in production. The following are rumored to be in the works:
Sailor Moon
Pokemon (Dear god why?)
Ghost in the Shell
Full Metal Alchemist
Eureka Seven
Ronin Warriors
Ugh... it's like the producers of the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie were given a free subscription to tokyopop. Nothing artistic and good is safe in the world we live in anymore. Producers have to ruin EVERYTHING.
DaveMMR:
I thought the first one was just "okay". As a popcorn movie, it is entertaining. But the dialog is ridiculous, Keanu Reeves can't act his way out of a wet paper bag and the story seems to be a little loose with it's own rules.
The two sequels were the Wackowski (sp? whatever) Brothers taking the whole story in the trilogy a little too seriously. It was 90% uninteresting characters blabbering on about some nonsense while trying to sound "deep". Sorry, the Oracle has always been a completely worthless character and whenever they stopped to visit her, you knew it was a good time to get popcorn. And as cool as the fight sequences look, they end leaving you unfulfilled. If you stopped and thought about it, they were ultimately pointless. The agents won't die, so just Neo should've just run away from the get-go.
If you like it, that's cool. They're not the worst movies by any means. Just a big disappointment.
