Yeah the bottom part did fall apart once I removed the e-clip I have to look at it when I get home I believe that golden part of the controller(see top pic in first post) prevents me from sliding the guard in.  I cleaned the whole thing in CLR and it rust free from what can be actually seen.  BTW, I bought the cleark DK guard from Mike's Arcade.  Does any one know where I can get a black one??  He also sells the black WICO ones do those work?  Any recomendations?

Here is the schematic for the joystick.

Then just pull the joystick shaft out of the base, or tip it upside down and it will fall out, assuming it is not seized from rust.

That amber plastic cylinder doesn't come off? I would think it would but I don't know for sure because none of my Nintendo joysticks have the removable balltop like yours does (they were made both ways).

Kremmit:
That clear dustwasher disk you bought is the type that came on Donkey Kong machines (others?), and was installed above the CPO.

Ok cool. I will put it there.  Last night Delusional29 and I took a really close look at the stick  and took a hammer to it and guesss what, the thing was indeed rusted together, even after soaking it in CLR.  So I am good now, thanks for your help guys.  Actually anyone know where I can get the black joystick guard that went underneath the CPO??
