Original post

This is just a little mini project to keep me busy while I'm waiting to fully restore/convert my Donkey Kong 3 machine that's in a Donkey Kong Jr. cabinet to a dedicated Donkey Kong machine.  My cabinet right now only has the platform that the coin box sits on and does not have the shell or the drawer.  I was looking for one and found a couple sources but so far nothing has panned out.  with some measurements from my "platform", and pictures that one of our members, Awesome Albert, has been so kind to take of a water damaged box, I have been able to use Google's SketchUp 6 program to model a new coin box.  Here's a video to keep your interest as we ARE just talking about a box here:

Here are some high res images (further below are the preliminary plans):

CLICK ON A THUMBNAIL FOR A FULL SIZE IMAGE

The preliminary plans (if anyone can either verify or update the various measurements, I will change them in the model.  Once I am satisfied that it's correct, I will upload the final plans and SketchUp model for anyone that needs and wants to build a new coin box):

I did search for some plans already, so hopefully nobody replies in a minute with a link to plans already.  If that were to happen all would not be lost, because this is just the kind of project that you need to get started with SketchUp.  If you have thought of using SketchUp, I would just try modeling something simple like this first and work out the kinks.  I'm in love with SketchUp now... this tool is awexome.  The only thing it doesn't really do that well is animate moving parts.  You have to do this stop animation type thing with layering techniques - it's a real PITA.

Hope you enjoy, and can help!  Thanks for reading.

Well it looks like I have a decent looking coin box coming to me for $35 shipped.  I'll still update the plans, and if anyone still wants to have a look at the dimensions please do.  I won't get this coin box for probably 2 more weeks because I'll be on vacation.  Otherwise I'll just do the measurements myself ;)

Did you ever get your coin box? I'd really like to see some pics of the drawer (especially the bottom). The coin box appears to be made of 5/8" plywood but I don't know how the bottom is attached or what the wood thickness is.

Here's a pic of just the drawer from an eBay auction I lost.

Hey Farb,

Yeah I got the coin box.  I've been a little sidetracked from DK but I'll hook you up maybe tonight with the dimensions.  I will put it together in Google Sketchup and upload that ASAP, and then release the dimensioned views later since they also take some time to do.

EDIT:  Didn't have the time... but I'll keep on it.

Has anybody ever checked these measurements?  Are they at least kind of accurate?

Wow, I really dropped the ball on this one.  I have the coin box and will update the dimensions... even if I just mark up those pics. Feel free to ping me if I don't.
