What boards for this setup in MAME PC??
(1/1)
Games001:
Hi all.. Mega Noob here.

I'm trying to decide what boards to 'hack' or encoder-controll via PC input is best (both in value $ and ease of setup) for the following CP:

2: Rotary Joysticks
22: Button setup
1: Spinner

I have looked through Saint's Book and the options have my head spinning. *no pun there*

I know there are alot of options to be found in the world, but maybe you folks can help me thin down the possible combos.

Thanks!

You already asked this question here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=75001.0 and I asked a follow-up question here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=75001.msg776921#msg776921

Not to rag on you, but don't you read your own posts?

I would suggest buying a real encoder, like the GroovyGameGear or Ultimarc boards.  I wish I had known about these when I started out, but I ended up hacking a couple of old Gravis USB gamepads.  Not that the gamepads don't work, but they were a royal pain to map, hack and wire.  I also ended up wrecking one of them somehow (good thing I bought 3).  A proper encoder will help to mitigate these problems.

Hmmm.. I thought I had not posted over there (thought I cancelled the post before it listed).

OOPS! My error.   I guess I don't always read my own posts.  :tool:

And to answer my own question as an update, I recently ordered the GP-WizRX-ST USB Controls Interface with Rotary Function from Groovy.  I only have a single 8-way stick, 6 player buttons, and 4 'Up'/Service buttons ready for it.

Let's see how it works out when all is said and wired.
