You could rewire the existing volume knob that's on there by removing it and extending the wires. However, if yours is like mine and the volume control is almost impossible to get rid of, you might want to consider getting a keyboard with volume controls on it. Assuming you're working a keyboard into your cabinet, of course. If I need to control the volume (it's not something that needs to be done often, I use my keyboard.

You need a 100k pot to set an inline volume control. Either a slider control or a dial. In the uk Maplins has 'em, im sure Radio shack or whatever the equivalant is in the states will too. You just wire it into your speaker input cable and mount it wherever you want on the cab.

Are you talking about the Klipsh 2.1's?

If so you can find them on ebay.

Assuming you have a spinner or trackball on your cab you could use this little app.

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=69901.0

I use my spinner and player 2 start button and it works great.

Can you point me in the right direction of a keyboard that does this? I've looked around and cannot find one.

Thanks

well im going with the inline pot jobby !

basicly set the sound on your speakers to a high level where there not fuzzy and put the speakers in your cab THEN the wire taht goes into the speakers you cut in half and stick a pot. in there so you have a volume control of the input

like a variable resistor but its called a potometer (not sure of spelling).

i tried to get one at maplins last year and i think they didn't do them, may now thou i dunno.

basicly your volue knob is a potometer with a fancy plastic cap on top and all your doing is having a external volume adjuster before the audio reaches the speakers.... you would have to make sure the audio on your pc was on full to get a decent sound thou i presume

Option 1: I'd suggest just buying another set of 2.1 speakers but this time make sure they have a remote volume control on the end of a wire then move this volume control to somewhere accessible on the cab. Just google for "speakers 2.1 remote volume" and read the reviews - this will cost you around 20 pounds but save you a big headache.

Option 2: If you're good with electronics then you could find out what resistance the existing variable resistor is (that's what the volume knob is connected to and it's also called a potentiometer). Then buy one from maplins that can fit your cab and solder it into your speakers. This may be fiddly and I'll bet you will of prefered you took option 1.

Option 3: If you have a tab key then I believe you can adjust the volume through the menu system - I'm unsure what keys you'd require. It won't be a pretty option and I'll guarantee any mates that play on the machine will never be able to turn the volume down.

If you're in South London then I'd be happy to show you some of my little machines (http://www.bikesandkites.com/mame2.html) - they  use option 1.

Just to try and clear up the question of 'what' these little buggers are..

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062359&cp=&sr=1&origkw=pot&kw=pot&parentPage=search

As to the wiring of such a device.. that would be a good question.  :dunno
