Option 1: I'd suggest just buying another set of 2.1 speakers but this time make sure they have a remote volume control on the end of a wire then move this volume control to somewhere accessible on the cab. Just google for "speakers 2.1 remote volume" and read the reviews - this will cost you around 20 pounds but save you a big headache.

Option 2: If you're good with electronics then you could find out what resistance the existing variable resistor is (that's what the volume knob is connected to and it's also called a potentiometer). Then buy one from maplins that can fit your cab and solder it into your speakers. This may be fiddly and I'll bet you will of prefered you took option 1.

Option 3: If you have a tab key then I believe you can adjust the volume through the menu system - I'm unsure what keys you'd require. It won't be a pretty option and I'll guarantee any mates that play on the machine will never be able to turn the volume down.

If you're in South London then I'd be happy to show you some of my little machines (http://www.bikesandkites.com/mame2.html) - they  use option 1.

Just to try and clear up the question of 'what' these little buggers are..

As to the wiring of such a device.. that would be a good question.  :dunno
