Perfection

The best thing that I could see would be the Pats having a perfect regular season, then losing in the first round of the playoffs.  If they go 16-0, it means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING unless they win the Superbowl.  When the Dolphins went undefeated, they won the Superbowl so they didn't lose ANY games that season.  If the Pats don't do the same, then they've accomplished nothing.

It's similar to when the Seattle Mariners won 118 games in 2001.  They didn't win the World Series, so the record really means nothing.  In 1998 the Yankees won 116 games, which was a record at the time, but they went on to win the World Series so their record meant something.

If the Pats win tomorrow, I think it will put even MORE pressure on them since anything short of the Superbowl victory is a failure for them.

(BTW, I'm a Raiders fan so I have little to look forward to for a while.   :'( )

The 1985 Bears though not undefeated were a better team.

If the Pats can go through the entire playoffs and Super Bowl giving up only 10 points like the '85 Bears did, I'll eat my words. They blanked the Giants in the NFC Divisional playoff and then shut out the LA Rams in the NFC Championship game as well.  They gave up 10 points in the Super Bowl and that was it.

Jdurg:
Exactly.  That's why just being undefeated means nothing.  Different teams have different schedules which means that one team's season is not as difficult as another team's.  Look at the Patriots this year.  How many honestly "tough" opponents have they had?  The '85 bears were a damned good team.  It's a shame that I only remember them for their "Superbowl Shuffle" montage which is really quite embarassing.

Again, being a Raiders fan I haven't had much to look forward to.  Especially being an East Coast Raiders fan.  Unless they are a good team, I never get to see their games.   :'(  I like football in general, but that's probably due to my not getting to see my favorite team play.  Hell, I'm shocked that Justin Fargas has over a thousand yards rushing this year.  It's just depressing seeing how they went from such a great team to such a ---smurfy--- team so quickly.  If only half their team didn't go out on a drug and alcohol binge the night before their only Superbowl appearance that I can remember.   :'(

(Though I did go see a Giants/Vikings game at the Meadowlands a few years ago.  Only time I've ever seen a football game in person.  The best part was the awesome tailgate party beforehand.  I got a lot of great compliments for my Italian Sausage, Venison(sp?) Sausage, Onions, Peppers, Marina Sauce and Cheese concoction.  I didn't have a lot of beer with me that day, but the other people I hung out with and tailgated with were more than happy to help me out.  Honestly, the tailgating was the best part of the trip.  Sitting out in sub-freezing temperature while cooking a huge meal and drinking with complete strangers was fun.   ;D

Imagine the team having the balls to record the Super Bowl Shuffle with 4 games still left in the season NOT including the playoffs!  Talk about putting a bulleye on your back.
