I highly recommend the book over all 3 movies....

I read an article in Sci Fi magazine about the movie where the director said that they wanted to stay away from the "mindless zombies" like in 28 Days because it has been done too much. They wanted to have a different spin on things.
Also, the vampires in the original book weren't mindless.

I could go with zombies with some intelligence... but supernaturally strong, climbing up buildings for no reason, running around faster than his Mustang?

I agree 100% there. That is one of the complaints I had about the movie.
