windows boot screen/cab name
« on: May 12, 2003, 06:18:56 pm »
ok, so this is a double question (one of which could've actually gone in the 'Everything Else' forum, but what the hey)

after wrecking my brain trying to think up a name for a cab, i decided on D-PAC (Dreamcast - PC Arcade Cabinet) - i don't think this has been used yet...but, is it too similar sounding to I-Pac or J-Pac?

next, i made a quick bootup screen for windows (16 colour BMP)...what does everyone think? i think there's maybe too much yellow, but with only 16 colours i can't decide what to do!

(the loading bar is in the center, those 3 yellow dots are part of it - they just scroll from left to right)

just gotta think up a marquee design and some sideart (decided against a KOF theme because of the cab name)

 :P

Very cool, gives that extra touch of customization...

What versions of windows can you do this in? Is there a FAQ about making your own splash screen out there? More specifically for XP?

for win 95/98
* radiator you have to replace logo.sys with a bitmap file (renamed to logo.sys).

for win XP, use a program called BootXP (you can get it from this site - goto the downloads section

how do you get the loading dots to scroll?  Not familiar with animated BMPs.

Looks terrific. I like the name too. Nice work.
If you build a frankenpanel, chances are I don't care for you as a person.

thats a feature of the BootXP program, you can specify a custom bitmap for the dots (or whatever you make them) and also re-position them (up/down)

right, next question...

my computer is setup to auto logon as administrator (that's the only account on it), and thus, shows the XP 'Welcome' screen...

is there anyway to disable/change this along with the 'Windows is shutting down' screen?

it bugs me!

well, cdbrown, you're turning out to be a very helpfull guy!
found exactly what i was looking for, windows now just displays a login box for a split second, the goes straight into MAMEwah. when you shutdown you see a logoff box (again, for only a split second) then shuts down

GREAT!

here's how to do it (if anyone else need it):

1. click on "Start" - then click on "Run" - and type
"control userpasswords2"
2. click OK
3. On the Users tab, clear the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" check box and click "Apply".
4. A dialog will appear that asks you what user name and password should be used to logon automatically, just click "OK".

Then go to Control Panel / User Accounts, and click
