ubuntu, SDLMame 121, Wahcade .23 ...tempest fails to start

i have Ubuntu 7.10 and SDLMame 121, and Wahcade .23. For some reason any version of tempest I try to use it shows the first page of the start up then fails I have not found another game that does this. Any help would be appreciated.

oops I ws using windows at the time. :banghead: it has happened to all roms sinceImoed them to a shared drive.
