| Ultimarc's Arcade VGA:AGP vs PCIe (can I get away with AGP?) |

Hi, Was looking to buy a cheap barebones system for $149 (no tax and free shipping) at http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3523620&CatId=332 However, it only has an AGP slot (no PCIe). Will I really see a performance difference in MAME if I go for the AGP version of Ultimarc's Arcade VGA card? It's also cheaper at $87 .vs $97 for the PCIe version of the Arcade VGA card. I am currently running a Pentium 4 - 1.7ghz and it runs just fine (AGP NVidia with Powerstrip resolutions installed). I already have a dedicated arcade IDE hard drive which I swap out in my current system when I want to use the arcade. So this would be an upgrade so that I can take back my Pentium 4 for e-mail and word processing. :) Again... it will be a DEDICATED computer strictly running MAME, not for 3D PC games or anything. Thoughts? ~ Jason ** EDIT: I ended up getting a faster processor 4000+ X2 AMD which needed a different Motherboard (which has PCIe). Problem solved (even if it is $10 more) :P |

I don't see what the PCI version would add. My AGP versions are arcade perfect. How do you improve on that? |

You are correct. There is not much difference. My buddy has AGP and is works just fine. However, the board that I got just happened to come with PCIe so it was an extra bonus. ~ DeLuSioNaL |
