"Bubblegum Betty" artwork updated (16/02/08)
« on: November 30, 2007, 11:45:41 am »
Looking for a bit of feedback on the first piece of artwork for my cab:

All criticism welcome!
I am trying to stick to the pink and blue theme of my cab. The cab is both a touchscreen jukebox and arcade machine and I am trying to reflect that in the artwork.  This is a completely different style of art compared to the Pocket fighter stuff I did on my Neverland cab. My plan is to print the marquee on a large transparency and block in the main logo and character with zinc white acrylic paint. I have a sound reactive neon behind the marquee and an ivory plastic base that acts as a diffuser this should allow the lighter colours to shine with the music.

I have changed the colours as suggested by Javeryh and gone for a more "plasticky" look to the lettering increaseing the stroke size where possible. To see the image fullsize click the link below didnt put it directly in the page as it is pretty big! Tried to take on bored the ideas given where possible. I havent placed them on the background yet as the new colours will effect the design of the background.

waveryder,

That is getting better by the day...  My wife said it was cool too. (again).  I'd be able to swing 15 bucks for printing if youd send me everything when its done.  Wouldnt mind doing a arcade for my girls and they really like it.

Love the artwork.  Did you do that in Photoshop CS3?

Betty was originally done in photoshop7. But the colour revisions were done in CS3. Personally i like Pshop7 its much better to paint in than CS3, its a lot less bulky. Most of the time I work in Illustrator and then transfer over to Photoshop or Painter depending on what effect i'm trying to produce. Most hard shaded arcade stuff is Photoshop.

"Bubble Gum Betty" Im So Excited I Wet My Pants! (Updated 24/01/08)
« Reply #16 on: January 24, 2008, 01:54:13 pm »
Time for something pants wettingly good!

My artwork arrived today. Its printed on 400gsm Self Adhesive Vinyl in 100 year UV pigmented inks, its rated for ip56 all weather use! (I'm only using it on the cab though). Got all my art except my marquee printed on one A0 sheet. This includes both Side Art, Kick Plate, Sub CP, 3X Main CP, Coin Slot Cover and enough logo's and betty images to go completely nuts.

I made a small alteration to my designed artwork to allow all of the background gradients to flow from blue to pink. After a test print I decided to change it. Cant start cutting it till tommorrow as I wanna make sure I get a good quality knife to trim it. I cant recommend getting your artwork done proffessionally enough. I did the artwork for my last cab on glossy photopaper and covered everything in perspex. Let me tell you there is no comparrison! Now if you'll excuse me I have to go and caress my artwork lovingly....
 ;)

its rated ip56 over here (UK) That means its rated all weather proof and gauranteed 0% fade for 100 years. When its up on "Betty" my 2 year old will give it the ultimate toddler test!!!

Is this stuff like the Polycarbinate laminate that mamemarquee uses?

Couldnt tell you what kind of laminate they use. They didn't specify it. The lamination is an after process. I believe that MMarquees only use polycarb laminate on their CP's. But dont quote me on that. I don't require my sideart to be bullet proof so the IP56 rating is good enough for me.

Decided to get the instruction card and marquee finished and out of the way. The original BGB marquee was just printed onto matt paper and laminated as a test. I found that when the soundreactive marquee kicked up occasionally the marquee just completely went blue, this wasnt quite the effect I was after so swapped the colours around and got it printed onto glossy film.

It came out really well and picks up the light beautifully. It cost me the sum total of £1.85 to get it printed, couldn't be happier with the price!! Betty stays visible now all of the time and only the background and glows are noticeable effected by the sound reactive light. Thats now all of the cabinet artwork done!
