That's what I'm talking about... they need real game reps to stay sharp enough to succeed against the better teams. It's not necessarily their fault that the other team had 4 turnovers in the first quarter. No one would anticipate 72 points in 15 minutes... I'd imagine both coaches were standing there thinking that at some point the defense was going to stop bleeding the way they were. You can't shut a whole game down 8 minutes into the game... that would be flat out terrible.

There were actually 6 turnovers in the first quarter. 5 fumble recoveries and an interception.
Kevin Mullins:
Wow.
The coach did a good job of not "running the score up".
He didn't mean for them to "laydown" and not score when they got to the five yard line. What he was wanting to do was keep the score from being outrageously rediculous but still get field goal attempt pratice in. Same for the two point conversion attempts, that is just something you need to do regardless of the score in order to prepare for the NEXT game. Those two things can be deciding factors in a later game in the playoffs and the championship game.
Most people don't understand that when playoffs start generally the first round is usually matched up between a No.1 team and a barely squeeked into the playoffs team. This particular game was indeed a typical first round playoff game.
Therefore the win is fair to say pretty much decided before it starts, yet the coach of the No.1 team still needs to play and practice in preperation for the NEXT games, which only get harder.
And the simple fact is just that they absolutely dominated the first quarter with shear talent and the luck of the gameplay. No-one to "blame" there.
I have two boys playing high school football btw..........
Our last district game is tommorow night against a team that just hasn't done well in several years. Prediction is we will absolutely dominate that game.
Yet our record will put us in the bottom of the playoff picks, which means we will go up against a No.1 team that hasn't lost a game in several years......which means our ass will probably be handed to us on a platter. That's just the way it goes.

Typical in the seeding matchup... not so typical in that a 4-5 team got in and the winning team was on a 50 game winning streak and had a 640-0 point differential for this season. It's a very extreme difference even between a top and bottom seed.
Kevin Mullins:
Yeah, I meant "typical" in the matchup by way of rankings per say, first round playoff game being between a No.1 team playing against a team that just made it into the playoffs.
The seasons points spread between the two teams was definitly not a typical matchup.
Yet keep in mind that part of the ranking system is based on the points spread of a season games outcome, not just win-loss records.
Which also factors into why these two teams were matched up in the first round of playoffs.... merely due to each teams overall rankings.
