Coin door mech question

rhoelsch:

Ok, just picked up a 1985 Sega over/under door ($20, fair condition), with working mechs, and the following questions have arisen:

1.  Um,  the "push to reject" buttons I had always assumed that if you put a quarter in, you could reject it before you hit a start button to get your quarter back, like in a Coke machine.  Now after toying around with mine it seems to dislodge whatever coin happened to get "stuck" in the mech.  Is this correct?  (I never had to reject before!)

2.  Does anyone have a bisected view so I can see how the insides work?  I desperately need an easy way of getting it to accept any coin, but haven't figured it out yet...

3.  Was actually thinking of using x-mas lights for the door lights...but can I just get a LED that supports 5V (IPAC output) and run a ground thru there before it goes to my cp?

4.  Finally:  What's the magnet in the mech for?

Druin:

The coins fall through so you can't change your mind and retrieve them like the other types of mechs from vending equpiment.

Here is a Happ coin mech, with a button to click for an exploded assembly view

CitznFish:

i know nothing about coin mechs, but I wanna guess that the magnet is to stop slugs and other metal discs. Quarters will not stick to magnets

Brax:

Neither will a stainless steel slug!
