Quick question per andy the arcadevga2 will not support 64 bit xp & is not going to since vista is here so what options looks like the best...

option 1: use existing setup w/ xp 32 bit my pci-e arcadevga2 w/ betson monitor since overall xp is faster than vista

option 2: purchase vista 64 bit, I only have 32 bit right now, dump the arcadevga card for a standard video card
thanks ahead of time for opinions

ya know.. I bet if somebody would just make an unofficial version of Mame that supported hardware acceleration instead of emulating 3D gfx in software it would make a big difference.  I know Mamedevs will never do it but there are other hardware accelerated emus right?  Zinc?  how about slap a Glide wrapper on CarnEvil and Blitz and call it a day   ;D

what is the reason they dont do hardware accel for gfx?  no way to break it out of the ROMs?

well, in a lot of cases they are emulating a graphics chipset.  Like the 3dfx Voodoo for example.  so basically for the sake of accuracy they emulate the 3dfx in software using your CPU.  They COULD write drivers that would take advantage of current hardware by way of openGL or directx but that wouldnt be accurate to the really arcade hardware which is the whole point of MAME (supposedly).   That's why I say it would have to be some unofficial third party version of Mame or seperate emulator all together.  I could be mistaken but I think WAY back when Mame first started out that it would take advantage of similar sound hardware instead of emulating it.. So if, for example the original arcade game used a yamaha sound chip and your PC sound card had the same or similar chip it would use that instead of emulating it... but I could be mistaken.  It would be nice if Mame did that with GFX.. then everybody would suddenly be trying to buy old 3DFX cards so they could play Midway games :)
