--- Quote ---Okay guys--I guess I've lost $2500. I hope I can just save someone else from making the same mistake.

I have not gotten a phone call from Slikstik since the last one I discussed in the forums above (back in July), despite leaving numerous messages requesting for them to call me back. I have also e-mailed numerous times, and have no received a response since they last updated me (which required me to have a friend who lives in New Jersey to drive by their shop). Supposedly, this whole delay has been due to a backordered trackball, yet on this last update the trackballs had finally arrived, and now it is supposedly the overlay. I have no idea why--after months of waiting for a trackball--they didn't use some of my $2500 to go ahead and have everything else ready (as they promised in several e-mails. One stated specifically that my order would ship the day after they received the trackballs).

I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and they have not heard back from Slikstik. I have filed a complaint with the Nutley, New Jersey Division of Consumer Protection. The head of the department, AnnMarie Nicolette, got a prompt callback from Christian Stango (Slikstik owner), who informed her that he had no idea I had been trying to contact him, etc., etc. I then forwarded her every single e-mail I had from Slikstik that directly refuted his statements to her (in other words, he directly lied to her). She confronted him with this, and since she has not had a phone call returned from Slikstik. Furthermore, Slikstik had its New Jersey business license (license #0600171819) revoked on January 16, 2007, for failing to file their annual report for several years in a row. Since then, no attempt has been made to re-establish their license.

This is terribly unfortunate. Christian Stango told me on the phone back in July that he was good for his word, and that no matter what happened, he would make good on every single order with Slikstik (this was back when I thought they had gone out of business). He said this exact same thing to the Nutley representative (before he stopped returning her phone calls). I can only assume that this, too, was a lie.

Again--it is my hope this will keep someone else from falling into the same trap I did. I highly recommend that if you have been slighted or had trouble with Slikstik in the past that you call AnnMarie Nicolette with the Nutley, New Jersey Division of Consumer Protection and voice your complaint. Her number is 973-284-4900 x2421. I also highly recommend that if you plan to order from Slikstik that you think the matter through carefully. I would recommend researching Slikstik on the Better Business Bureau website (where they have not responded to any complaints leveled against them and have an unsatisfactory rating), or Check with the Nutley, New Jersey Division of Consumer Protection and see what they have to say.

--- Quote ---Let me state again that anyone who has been slighted really should call the Nutley Division of Consumer Affairs. I have no idea what posts you're talking about (I've been off the boards for a while), but if she gets several complaints she intends to get the New Jersey Attorney General involved in this. If anyone wants more info, please have them PM me.

Just thought this might be of help.....

Obviously to PM him you would have to register....

So they've been operating without a business license for a year now huh? I think a call to the IRS may be in order here.

Aren't tax evasion and fraud both Federal offenses? ;)

Oh, Happy Days!   :applaud:  When Orc turned me onto this board and thread I was furious and elated at the same time, and it's been the longest hours of my life waiting to be registered so I could post here.  Anyway, it is my post that he linked to above at MameWorld.

All I can say is "wow".  For the longest time I thought I alone was being reamed by Christian.  I hate to see that so many people have been done so wrong, but it's nice to know that I wasn't singled out.  I honestly think that a concerted effort would be exceptionally productive... taking a single case through small claims typically has little bite to it.  I'm not an attorney (do we have any on here looking at all of this mess?), but I'm already discussing various actions that can be taken with mine.  He's one that suggested going to the Attorney General, and a good vehicle to use is the Nutley Division of Consumer Protection (Nutley, New Jersey is where Slikstik is located).  I had contacted them primarily to see if someone there in Nutley could confirm if Slikstik is even in business.  Anyway, the head of the division is a lady named AnnMarie Nicolette, and here's her contact info:

Township of Nutley
Consumer Protection
AnnMarie Nicolette
973-284-4900x2421
anicolette@nutleynj.org

She has gotten involved, and even spoke to Christian (who passed along the same garbage to her as he did to me).  I forwarded her the e-mails that directly conflicted with what Crhistian told her, and since then he won't return her calls, etc.  However, she's now gotten Nutley Building and Zoning involved since he has (seemingly)  been running a business illegally out of a residence.  At least it's something, and with more input she can do a lot more (see below).

I also posted my results of searching for their business license, and found it revoked (I have a printed copy of the status if anyone needs it).  I also have copies of the information I provieded to the BBB and the State of New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs.  Again:  I really think we ought to work to make a concerted effort out of this thing.  Someone even mentioned potential criminal offenses here.  Surely there's got to be a case for fraud and/or illegally operating a business (without a license).  Again--any attorneys on here?

 :soapbox:Okay... as a business owner, myself, it really irks me to see the was we've been treated.  Oh man... I was about ready to driver up to Jersey when I saw some of the posts on here... people who ordered after me and were being told a delivery time of two weeks.  I mean--geez--that's when he was harping about the friggin' trackballs and the horrible delays.  Christian was absolutely and unequivocally lying to each and every one of us, and that is absolutely unforgivable.  What's worse is he strung me along past the point of being able to appeal my charge with VISA.  And this isn't even taking into account the horrible customer service.  Man--he was "Johnny on the Spot" when I was ordering, and he even gave me his cell number (sorry guys--the number is no longer in service).  Anyway, I have made mistakes in business just like everyone else.  We all make mistakes.  But I own up to them, as I feel most responsible people would do.  And I would never lie to masses and masses of people, taking their money knowing my ship was going down.  Nope--this is just criminal.  One thing is for damn sure.  It might cost me more than the $1000 controller I'm losing, but I'm taking a bite out of his posterior before this is over with.

Now--back off of the soapbox.  I'd like to hear what everyone thinks.  I simply cannot stress enough that is you have been slighted by SlikStik to call the contact I have listed above.  She told me that if she has more complaints she will take it to the County Attorney who will then take it straight to the Attorney General's Office.  This is a way for everyone to get involved without having to invest money in an attorney just to end up with a lien on a company that's going bankrupt.  I don't hold out hope for a refund nor for my controller to show up one day, but if not, I at least want to see this situation investigated, and if anything criminal is found (which I feel is likely since he obviously lied to people about the situation... we are all witnesses to this) for someone to be held responsible.

Please feel free to contact me personally with any comments and/or questions.  Thansk for letting me vent!

All,
After briefly discussing with Scott from Mameroom, I decided to give up the ghost and try for a refund from my CC company. Going into the call I was prepared to do some heavy lifting but I found that the company was very sympathetic to my issue. Even though the purchase was older than 90-days they agreed to give me a conditional refund and have be provide a statement regarding the lack of response from SlikStik. Since I have been documenting this the entire way, this should be easy. Once I get my refund I plan to order the same unit from Scott. I can start to see the light at the end of the tunnel...

Thanks all for your advise and assistance.

JonathanEngr:

Congrats and good luck to you.  My bank was sympathetic but had little room to wiggle on their 60-day policy.  I'm in it for the long haul.

Speaking of criminal acts, I thought it might be interesting to post this.  Here are some examples of criminal fraud that were listed along with the definition.   Do any of these sound familiar????

Fraud, in addition to being a criminal act, is also a type of civil law violation known as a tort. A tort is a civil wrong for which the law provides a remedy. A civil fraud typically involves the act of intentionally making a false representation of a material fact, with the intent to deceive, which is reasonably relied upon by another person to that person's detriment. A "false representation" can take many forms, such as:

A false statement of fact, known to be false at the time it was made;
A statement of fact with no reasonable basis to make that statement;
A promise of future performance made with an intent, at the time the promise was made, not to perform as promised;
A statement of opinion based on a false statement of fact;
A statement of opinion that the maker knows to be false; or
An expression of opinion that is false, made by one claiming or implying to have special knowledge of the subject matter of the opinion. "Special knowledge" in this case means knowledge or information superior to that possessed by the other party, and to which the other party did not have equal access.

I want to call the author and see if they'll just shorten the definition to "www.slikstik.com".
