Upgrade MediaWiki and add a few extensions?

Hi. Has there been any discussion of upgrading MediaWiki? I was just looking and we're at v1.5.6; the latest version is 1.11.0.

Should we upgrade, we can open the possibility of adding some of the great extensions that help enhance articles (thinking Cite, Graphviz, etc...).

If this is a possibility, I would like to help out. I help admin a MediaWiki installation for fortune 50, and we've gone though conversions to new versions several times.

Thoughts?

It could definately do with a bit of an update. I use MediaWiki for my technical documentation at work and its great.

Sorry for the long delay in responding... had an early arrival of baby.

I'd certainly entertain the possibility. Most of the reason we haven't upgraded Mediawiki is that we're still on PHP 4.4. Mediawiki dropped support of PHP4 in their more newer releases for PHP 5. I don't doubt the forum can work under 5, but I'm not so sure of our legacy code hosting the main site. It'll take some important planning to get the upgrade right... something I might do over the next few weeks.

In the meantime, come up with extensions or add-ons you'd like to see if we make the jump.

Yeah, the php5 upgrade will take some work - that makes sense. There will be many new and welcomed features in the latest version of mediawiki. I will come up with a list - for now I was thinking of Graphviz (clickable diagrams draw on the fly), Cite, and I know of an electronic schematics one I've observed before too. I'll come up with links to the extensions shortly.
