I want one of these: http://www.happcontrols.com/trackballs/56020000.htm But there is no way in hell I am going to cough up $215+ for it. Anyone have any suggestions on alternatives? I am trying to get a small trackball to fit in my Atari cocktail cabinet so I can use the mouse on screen in my jukebox software. |

Yes, buy a mouse which has a ball on top and then hack it. Here is a quick example .... no idea what brand would be best for hacking though, but this is a sure way to reduce cost. |

I found a used (but in box w/software) serial trackball from about 1990 at a pc recycling center for $2.00, works great w/o drivers in XP and won't be much trouble to mount. Obviously it was a lucky find, but they're out there, and you could just get something used or cheap online somewhere. |

I bought a USB version of this on ebay for $15 shipped. Comes with a translucent ball. I'd be happy to take pix of the guts if you'd like? I am using it for a bartop project. |
