| Built my own high resolution (500 CPR) spinner! |

See pictures below. Machined out of 2" square aluminum tube, brass, and stainless for the shaft (1/4"). Yes I did the machining. Sensor is a Avago AEDB-9140-A06 with matched 500 CPR codewheel. Just hooked it up last night to my Opti-PAC and it works great! Gotta give credit to Whammoed for the 2" aluminum square stock idea (http://www.nicemite.com/Gyramite/images/02Prototype.JPG) - although I kinda reversed the design. Here is a link to the sensor's homepage in case you want more info: http://www.avagotech.com/products/motion_control_solutions/encoder_and_codewheel_bundle/aedb-9140-a06/ Sensors run off 5V (supplied by OptiPAC), just require a couple 2.7 K resistors as pull-ups. Only tricky thing to watch out for is that the encoder wheel is VERY delicate and soldering .050" spaced contacts sucks. Ok, here's your pics: |

I was actually able to get samples (free). This was over a year ago so I don't know the current status of sample-getting. Also, if anyone's interested, I will post the blueprints. I am working on rev2 right now because the spacing between the grooves on the shaft allows a bit too much vertical slop. The codewheel stays within the gap of the sensor module but just barely. |

Looks really clean. Nice work, I've though about doing something similar, but with just a mouse hack. Maybe your work will help get me inspired. Thanks for sharing and I bet that the plans would be appreciated by somebody, if not now than sometime down the road. |
