Translucent t-molding anyone?
polaris:
el tape
two types here at the bottom of the page

Did a little more searching and found some that just might work. The one in that link is way to wide, but on ebay there are a bunch of 5 foot strips that are 8mm wide.
Has anyone used or seen these? Is the 8mm width the lit portion or the actual piece? If it is the actual size then two strips could fit under the sides of the tmolding.

Check out this site too, for el wire and accessories:

I agree that its a shame that this doesn't defuse the EL light better... and I'd like to see it under the spine.
However I'd also be interested to see if the wood underneath the T-mold is painted a bright colour (eg green, blue) does the t-molding take on a hue of the colour underneath or does it stay 'off white'... You'd want it to be visible enough that even during the day/with the lights on you could see the colour of the EL or the wood because 'off white' might not look so good on many cabs... it'd be a shame to only look good with the lights off.

Good to see you found it DM.
Now you see what I mean.
Its not much better in the spine.
Its too transparent to be back lit IMO.
