Switching to Verizon Fios

(1/3) > >>

psik0tik:
When I get back home I'm switching to verizon fios. I have the 15 mb connection from brighthouse (timewarner) and it's slow compared to what I'm using on this jobsite.

shmokes:
You might want to run some speed checks (like at www.dslreports.com for examlple) first to see how close you're actually coming to that 15 Mb throughput.  Verizon's FIOS is totally affordable in 5 Mb and 15 Mb flavors, $40 and $50 respectively.  But if you want to jump up to the 30 Mb connection, the price jumps to something crazy like $160 per month.

Also, if you switch, I will hate you.  Just so you know.  My 3 Mb cable connection is $47/mo.  Don't ask me why Miami, damned FL is so backwards with broadband options.  I was paying $45/mo for my 6 Mb cable connection in dinky little Cedar City, Utah -- a town of 30,000 people.  I can go up to 5 Mb with my cable provider here, but it'd be $60/mo and I'm too poor.

psik0tik:
Yeah I'm switching to the 30 mb. It's a 160.00 well spent. I remember when a T1 line was like 300.00 and it's slower. I'm in Tampa and it's not so bad here with the prices.

ChadTower:

I'm at $55/mo for cable that is very mediocre... but that's all I can get.  No DSL or FIOS.

shmokes:
I should also mention that while I pay for a 3 Mb connection, it like to pretend that it's a 512 Kb connection quite frequently, and my internet goes out for like 30 seconds - five minute periods multiple times per day.  And they severely throttle bittorrent traffic.  Have I mentioned what a rat bastard psik0tik is?
